The 50th Engineer’s Day celebration was organized by Department of Civil Engineering, MVJCE to commemorate the 157th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on 15th September 2018 at 10:00 AM in Seminar Hall 6 and about 110 students and faculty members and non teaching staff of Civil Engineering Department had participated. The Master of Ceremony was Mrs. Apoorva Kiran, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering.

The event started with the arrival of dignitaries on the dais followed by the invocation song by 5th semester student Ms. Janush Bojamma seeking the blessings of lord Ganesha. The Dignitaries present on dais were Dr. K N Venkatakrishna Rao, Engineering Education Expert SAST®, Bengaluru, Shri Sudhindra Haldodderi, Former Scientist DRDO, also Member of KSTA, Bengaluru and Dr Nagaraj Sitaram, Principal, MVJCE. The function proceeded towards lighting of lamp by the dignitaries on and off the dais. Prof Muralidhara R delivered the welcome address welcoming the chief guests, Principal and the gathering. The opening remark was given by Dr Nagaraj Sitaram, Principal, MVJCE, briefing the significance of Engineer’s Day celebration.

Chief guest Dr K N V Rao addressed the gathering by giving interesting and fascinating facts about the gem of the mankind himself Sir M V. It was indeed an amazing and thrilling experience to know about Sir M V in his words.

Later, chief guest Shri Sudhindra Haldodderi addressed the gathering giving an insight about the industrialization taken place in the country over the years by the contribution of Engineers which was a call given by Sir M V. Still more interesting facts were being given on the life of Sir M V.

On account of Engineer’s Day celebration, Engineering Quiz Competition was being conducted by Prof Apoorva Kiran and Prof Dasari Priyanka in two rounds on 11th and 14th September, 2018 for Civil Engineering students in which about 35 students participated. The 1st round Quiz was of general questions on Civil Engineering where students were supposed to answer MCQ’s. The shortlisted students were selected for round 2 where they were made in 4 teams of 3 people. They encountered the oral technical round and the visual round. Finally we had the winners and runners of the competition.

1st place was secured by Abhishek Karthik, Manoj and Nang Luham of 7th semester.

2nd place was secured by Srikanth M and Venkateshmurthy of 7th semester.

The prize distribution was done on 15th September given away by the chief guests and the Principal.

A short documentary on Sir M Visvesvaraya was shown to the gathering which was followed by the Vote of Thanks given by Mrs. Apoorva Kiran extending gratitude to the esteemed chief guests, Principal for his constant support and encouragement, Prof Muralidhara R for valuable suggestions and cooperation throughout, supporting coordinator Mrs. Dasari Priyanka and all the faculties and participants.

Outcome of the event:

The event was organized to commemorate the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya thereby imparting the significance of celebrating Engineer’s day. The event gave an insight of some interesting facts about Sir M V life. The technical activity conducted in connection with the event, helped students to improve their technical skills and ability to work in a team. The event also gave a chance to meet and hear to our esteemed chief guests of great personality who inspired all of us.
