The heart of many Chemical Engineering operations is the chemical reactor. This laboratory offers team-based and student-defined projects investigating reaction engineering problems in areas of interest within the chemical industry. To enhance the practical knowledge of industrial application of chemical reaction engineering a number of reactors like CSTR, Plug flow reactor, batch reactor, sonochemical reactor, photo chemical reactor etc are available in this laboratory.

List of Experiments

Sl No.Description of Experiment
1To determine the specific reaction constant for saponification of ethyl acetate with NaOH.
2To determine the specific reaction rate constant at room temperature for the saponification reaction between ethyl acetate and sodium hydroxide in a tubular reactor.
3To study the saponification reaction between ethyl acetate and sodium hydroxide in an isothermal mixed flow reactor and to determine the specific rate constant at room temperature.
4To determine the variation of sodium hydroxide concentration with time from a semi batch reactor in which the saponification reaction takes place. Also to compare the theoretical and experimental value of outlet concentration at ambient temperature.
5To determine the conversion of esterification reaction between ethanol and acetic acid using batch adiabatic reactor and to find order and rate constant of the reaction using differential approach.
6To carry out the saponification reaction in a packed bed reactor by using ethyl acetate and sodium hydroxide and to determine the specific reaction rate constant.
7To study the non-ideality of PFR and to plot the exit time distribution of the reactor i.e. to obtain C-curve, E- curve and F-curve and to find the vessel dispersion number.
8To study the effect of temperature for reaction between non-equimolar (M≠1) quantities of sodium hydroxide and ethyl acetate in a batch reactor and to determine the activation energy and frequency factor using Arrhenius equation.
9To determine the effect of substrate concentration on α –amylase by Shoffer-Somogyi method.
10To determine RTD and plot f curve for experimental data obtained from mixed flow reactor.
11To find the rate constant for the Degradation of Methylene blue dye in presence of Ultrasonic cavitation.
