About Basic Electrical Engineering Lab

Basic Electrical Sciences Laboratory is used with the institute core course “Basic Electrical Engineering”. This lab can accommodate about 500 students during a semester. Located in 125 and 142, the labs have 35 fully equipped setup benches to carry out various fundamental experiments in Electrical Engineering. The lab is equipped with both AC and DC power supply with proper protection, supporting the students to experiment safely. The experiments are designed to expose students to the practical executions of the fundamental theories of Electrical Engineering.

Practical's/experiments carried out in Lab:

  • Verification of KCL and KVL for DC circuits.
  • Measurement of current, power, and power factor of incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp and LED lamp.
  • Two-way and three-way control of lamp and formation of the truth table.
  • Study of the effect of open and short circuits in simple circuits.
  • Inverse time characteristics of fuse and MCB.
  • Determination of phase and line quantities in three-phase star and delta connected loads.
  • Measurement of three phase power using two wattmeter method.
  • Measurement of resistance and inductance of a choke coil using 3 voltmeter method.
  • Measurement of earth resistance using Megger.
  • Demonstration of cutout sections of electrical machines (DC machines, Induction machines and synchronous machines).
  • Understanding of SMPS
  • 3-phase induction motor starting showing the effect of phase sequence.
