MVJ college of Engineering, Bengaluru, in association with Indian Science Congress Association, Bengaluru chapter, conducted ‘Future India Science and Technology Event’ focusing on Science Expo and Quiz Competition for school students in and around Bengaluru, on 30th October 2018. More than 40 schools participated with immense interest in the Science Expo and Quiz Competition, making the event a grand success.
The event was inaugurated by Smt. Rashmi Srikanth, Joint Director (Admin), Department of Technical Education, Karnataka, and Mr. Vasantha Kumar Narayanan, Cyclotis Software Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Dr. P. Giridhara Reddy (Dean – MVJCE) and Prof. M Brindha (Vice Principal – MVJCE) were also present. The Chief Guest Smt. Rashmi Srikanth, in her inaugural speech, enlightened the audience about the importance of ensuring a pollution-free Diwali, by using green crackers and e-crackers. She also gave an overview about Twin-pit toilet technology and usage of human waste in farming.
Following the inaugural function, the Science Expo and Quiz competition began. There were 27 science exhibits and 33 Quiz teams from different schools/colleges. Mr. Vasantha Kumar Narayan adjudged the 27 science models. Quiz master Mr. Vinay Mudaliar, Founder of Mindcogs, a prominent Quiz venture, conducted the quiz competition. Out of the 33 quiz teams, 6 teams were selected for finals, based on a preliminary written test. The final round was a multimedia round, which saw an enthusiastic audience participation.
The Valedictory function was attended by Dr. Gangadhar, General Secretary, The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Kolkata and Dr. S. Ramakrishna, Executive Committee member, ISCA. Dr. Gangadhar, in his valedictory speech, spoke about the various schemes available with ISCA, schemes which can be availed by schools and colleges to advance and promote the cause of Science in India, this being one of the main objectives of the Indian Science Congress.
Prizes were distributed to the winning teams of the Science Expo and Quiz competition at the valedictory function. In the Science Expo, the first prize was won by National Hill View Public School, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru, for their Project on ‘Neuron’. The second prize went to Whitefield Global School, Bengaluru, for their Project on ‘Septage Treatment’. There were three consolation prizes, too. In the Quiz Competition, the first prize was won by National Public School, HSR Layout, Bengaluru and the second prize by Vijaya PU College, Jaya Nagar, Bengaluru. There were four consolation prizes. The winners were awarded medals, trophies and cash prizes. Participation certificates were given to all the participants.

Outcome of the event:
The purpose of the Science Expo and Quiz Competition organized by MVJ College of Engineering under the focal theme ‘Future India: Science & Technology’, is to motivate the young talents for new innovations and ideas. Around 820 students from different schools and Pre-university colleges were present at the event which will encourage them to develop creative ideas for future India.
