An industrial visit to DDTC, BSNL was scheduled for 4th semester students of Electronics and Communication Department on 25th February 2019 and 26th February 2019.
91 students undertook the visit. They were divided into two batches of 43 and 48 students, to visit BSNL on two different days. On the first day (25/02/19), 43 students, along with two faculty members embarked on the visit. On the second day (26/02/19), 48 students, along with two faculty members were taken on the visit. On both the days, the college bus was used for transportation. The students left the college at 8.30 am and reached the BSNL venue at 10.30 am.
The training personnel, Mrs. Meera, welcomed the students at the venue. The Sub-divisional Engineer Mr. Krishnamurthy divided the students into 3 groups, to go around the different modules, namely Switching, Transmission and MDF (Main distribution function). Each module was attended by different personnel of BSNL.
In the Switching module, students learnt about the practical aspects of call-making and receiving. They were taught how to create the calling number and how to check the dial tone.
In the Transmission module, the students were briefed about OFC communication and its uses, advantages and applications. They were shown the cables and enlightened on its working procedure.
In the MDF module, students learnt about the requirement of main distribution function. They were briefed about line side and exchange side of MDF. They were shown the functioning parts of the distribution unit.
The visit concluded at 1.30 pm, and the students returned to the college at 3.00 pm. It was an informative and interesting visit.

Students witnessed the practical aspects of telephone switching mechanism, and also got an in-depth understanding of phone switches and links.
