By MVJCE

Introduction:

Python workshop was organized by the Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) at IIT Bombay, in association with MVJ College of Engineering, funded by the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT), MHRD, Govt. of India. As Spoken Tutorial method offers hands-on practice, with 100% active learning, those who undergo this training will be able to start using Python immediately after the workshop. The one-day Python workshop conducted on Saturday, 22 June 2019, at MVJ College of Engineering, Channasandra Main Road, Near ITPB Whitefield, Kadugodi, Bengaluru.

This was a blended training programme that uses AVIEW for live interactions and Spoken Tutorials, to learn to use Python. The medium of instruction for this workshop is English. 25 participants attended this Workshop. Participants from other institutions like New Horizon College of Engineering and Sandeepani Academy also attended this Workshop. Prof.Kannan Moudgalya, (Department of Chemical Engineering – Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay) and Prof. Prabhu Ramchandran(Co-Principal Investigator, FOSSEE project, IIT Bombay)conversed with the participants, through AVIEW.

Methodology:

All participants met at Seminar Hall 5 at MVJ College of Engineering, and later got training at English Lab – Lab number 101. The participants learnt about Python through Spoken Tutorials, aided by Coordinator Mr. Naeem Ahmed, who has already been trained for this purpose by IIT Bombay. This learning happened through carefully designed Spoken Tutorials, designed and developed at IIT Bombay.Hence, the quality of learning was very high. All the participants from the Remote Centre were able to interact with the Python team at IIT Bombay. They asked the Python team questions and cleared their doubts, through the video conferencing software AVIEW. Around 4 hours were set aside for Python training and 2 hours for interactions.

The Workshop had five sessions:
