MVJ College of Engineering was established in 1982 as the flagship institution of the Venkatesha Education Society to impart education in engineering, management, and beyond. Over 35 years, MVJCE has evolved and perfected a unique approach to delivery knowledge for our engineering and management programmes. The college is deeply involved at all levels of the students’ academic life, ensuring that they strive for excellence from the time they step into the campus. MVJCE reaches out to the upper echelon of youth professionals and draws patronage from a diverse population of students.
On April 27th and 28th 2018, MVJCE hosted its annual national level inter collegiate cultural fest SWAYAM with the theme “Around the World” where more than 1000 engineering students from 25 different institutions participated in 20 cultural competitions like Battle Of Bands, Just Dance , Voice Of Swayam, Just MIME , Pentastic, Painting etcwith the prize money worth four lakhs for the students. The faculty members and students worked relentlessly to make the event a grand success. “Swayam” had a soul to it – a soul that was vibrant, contagious and exuberant. In the past MVJCE has witnessed more than 1500 participants and 6000 footfalls during Swayam where there were participants from over 100 colleges. The college has been organising this grand cultural event since the past eight years. Through Swayam, MVJCE aims at offering the skilled budding minds an opportunity to portray their hidden talents.
The inaugural function of Swayam 2018 started with a welcome dance which was followed by ‘Saraswati Vandana’ – a praise to Goddess Sharda, an invocation song. The students welcomed the dignitaries with bouquets after which Dr A Pasupathy- Dean MVJCE welcomed the gathering. He inspired the students with his valuable insights and expressed his dream of witnessing more such events. Smt. Geeta Aravamudan- a renowned senior journalist, author, novelist, noted TED speaker and a freelance writer was the Chief Guest for Swayam. Expressing her thoughts at the event, she said “It is always a great feel to be among the students and I absolutely loved the energy and enthusiasm of Swayam. Students are a great resource to our country and I feel very proud when students give feedback regarding my writings. To know that the reading skills are still alive among the youths is only a great motivational source for authors like me to write more.”
Finally all the excitement, the thrills, the high-spirited energy and enthusiasm that had marked months of long planning and preparation lead to the annual mega event of Swayam 2018 with competitions of dance, music, theatre and fine arts taking-off at its full swing. There were informal stalls set up every day for the participants.
The surprise element of Swayam 2k18was the stand-up comedy by Akash Mehta at the MVJCE auditorium.
After two fun-filled days, the cultural extravaganza reached its logical conclusion. At the valedictory function. “ The audience were extremely fascinated to witness our students perform with all vigour and zeal and we are extremely proud of our students to put up a successful show like Swayam 2018. Any show can be successful only by the hard earned efforts of the students and Swayam18 has proven it right.” said Dr N.Gunasekaran, Principal MVJ College of Engineering. The Vice Principal Prof M Brindha and the Dean Dr A Pasupathy honoured the winners with prize money and certificates.
The second day evening show was stolen by a musical performance by Karnataka’s very own band “Lagori”. The students were enthralled by the performance of their favourite and the show was a big hit amongst the students and faculties alike.
Promising an unforgettable experience with a plethora of intriguing events, Swayam has always managed to be one of the major crowd pullers. Overall, the annual cultural fiesta Swayam 2k18 hosted by MVJ College of Engineering was completed with a grand success.
