INTRODUCTION
This is the ultimate test of programming and problem-solving skills. The event is to test the student’s ability to find errors in the solution provided, and solve a problem in terms of using appropriate algorithms, data structures and other technicalities. Apart from coding, the focus of the event is to check how various algorithm techniques are used in solving a problem, and how quick the participants are in finding the bugs. The problems should be analysed, and the most optimum programming technique is to be used. And the solution should be submitted in C or C++ language.
ROUND 1 – Elimination
- There will be 30 questions on C programming and Technical GK which the participants must solve within 30 minutes.
- There will be no negative marking.
- The Top 60 teams (which can change if there are multiple teams on Rank 60) will qualify for Round 2.
- Selection will be based on marks only, and not on time.
ROUND 2 – Debugging (HackerRank)
- All the teams that have qualified for Round 2 will be competing on www.hackerrank.com.
- Teams will have to register on HackerRank, in order to participate in this round.
- Teams will have to remove the bugs from the programs given to them.
- There will be 5 problems which the teams will have to solve within 30 minutes.
- The Top 30 teams in the HackerRank’s leader board will qualify for the final round, i.e. Round 3.
- Ranking system used in Round 2 is ‘Default HackerRank Leader board’, which ranks the teams as follows:
- Team with the maximum number of points will be at the top of the Rank list.
- In case of a tie, the fastest team to achieve that point will be at the top.
- There is no penalty for wrong submissions.
ROUND 3 – Coding (on CodeChef)
- The Top 30 teams that have qualified for this round will have to register on the URL provided (it will be a specific path of www.codechef.com for example: https://www.codechef.com/MCQ2018/) where the teams will have to register as a team (if they have not yet registered).
- Teams will be given 2 hours to solve 5 questions.
- The level of questions will be Beginner and easy: According to CodeChef’s website.
- Each question (based on its difficulty) will have different number of points assigned to it.
- Teams will have to write a program (in C or C++) based on the problem given in the questions.
- The Top 3 teams in the CodeChef’s Rank list (Leader board) will be declared as winners.
- Ranking system used in Round 3 will be IOI Style Ranking which ranks the team as follows:
- The team with the maximum number of points will be at the top of the Rank list.
- In case of a tie, the fastest team to achieve that point will be at the top.
- There is no penalty for wrong submissions.
- Also, students will be given a 15 – 20 min demonstration on ‘How to submit an answer on CodeChef’ before Round 3.
