Visit to Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium


The Department of Aeronautical Engineering, MVJCE, organised a visit to Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium. The Session which was held during our visit, was conducted at Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium Sky Theater, from 4 pm to 6.00 pm, on 16.03.2019.


25 participants from various departments took part in this visit. Mr. Antony Samuel Prabu G (AP/AE, Astronomy Club Coordinator) organized the event, ably aided by the Student Coordinator Mr. Shashi R Mistry (1MJ17AE054).

About the Event

This event aimed at creating awareness on our SOLAR SYSTEM AND STARS among the students from the Astronomy Club. ‘How the Universe Works’ shows you how the cosmos is designed and built, and how it actually works. From the beginning of time, stars, galaxies, planets, solar systems and more, have been working individually and together, to produce all that exists, and all that we see. At the Planetarium, we can see as never before the inner workings of our world, and explore black holes, supernovas, neutron stars, dark energy and all the titanic forces that make us who we are. With a dynamic cast of experts supported by new generation CGI, ‘How the Universe Works’ looks under the celestial hood to reveal the inner workings of outer space – the story of how it was made and how it runs.

Sky Theatre is the star attraction of the Planetarium. The thematic exhibitions comprise the shows running in the Sky Theatre. Lecture on the STARS AND OUR SOLAR SYSTEM helped the students to understand our universe in a better way. Concepts like nebula, formation of universe, constellations, Albert Einstein theory, Newton theory, solar power, comets, Asteroids, Greeks terminology, Ancient methodology, International Space Station finder, Sun spot, Arora’s Stellarium, Nebula Maia etc. were explained.

The exhibits consist of posters, small video clips and astro facts, on running message boards. At several spots, 1-minute video capsules are screened, to educate lay people about eclipses, meteor showers and opposition and conjunctions of planets. It comprises There is a 15-meter hemispherical dome on which projection is done The Gallery has a weighing machine that shows the possible weight of a person on various planets and on our Moon. A digital display on an artistically produced poster of the solar system displays the weight. A colorful print out of this, as well as of interesting astronomical facts can be obtained on paying a token fee.

Outcome of the Event:

This visit enabled students to understand our universe by visualizing it in the Sky Theater. The exhibition at the Planetarium helped the students to learn new things about our universe.
