If you have ever wondered how a satellite works, or how something as simple as a radio or television is able to bring music or news to you, then you have come to the right domain. If studying about semiconductors and communication in Physics or Boolean algebra in Mathematics grabbed your interest at the +2 level, Electronics and Communication Engineering is the right choice of Engineering course for you.

Electronic devices are ubiquitous – you find them all around you! As long as the human ambition to do things faster and better persists, electronic equipment also will continue to evolve, and new possibilities will continue to be created, not only in industries and businesses but also in our homes. Hence, Electronics and Communication is the leader of the present time and will spearhead the future too. With the evolution of technology, Electronics and Communication have become a discipline that is required in every industry.

Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) involves the research, testing, design and development of electronic equipment used in various systems. It deals with electronic devices, circuits, communication equipment like transmitter, receiver, integrated circuits, etc. ECE encompasses basic electronics, analog and digital transmission & reception of data, voice and video (examples: AM, FM, DTH), microprocessors, satellite communication, microwave engineering, image processing, power systems, opto-electronics, wave progression, etc.

All the devices and applications which make our life easier and enjoyable, such as television, radio, computers or mobiles, are designed and developed by Electronics and Communication Engineers. These engineers also design and maintain satellites which make it possible for people living in rural areas or remote places to have access to TV, telephone, and internet. They create advanced communication facilities like video conferencing through which you can consult with a doctor living in distant New York, at the click of a mouse! They develop programs for various control and communication systems. Modern applications like the Internet of Things, Robotics, and embedded systems are highly dependent on these engineers and they are considered as the backbone of the modern communication system.

The most significant benefit that the Electronics and Communication branch provides you is the freedom to drift between the hardware field and software field. And that’s why many industries and companies prefer Electronics and Communications Engineers over other engineers. An Electronics and Communication Engineer has knowledge about the hardware field and is proficient in computer languages also. Hence, they are in great demand across several sectors and are free to choose one of the many fields offered by ECE, according to their passion and capabilities.

A Sneak Peek into your Future

ECE opens up a vast panorama of job opportunities. With an Engineering degree in Electronics and Communication under your belt, you can get jobs in manufacturing industries as well as service organizations such as broadcasting, consulting, data communication, entertainment, research and development, and system support. These engineers can also work in modern multimedia service firms that are involved in the real-time transfer of information through video conferencing and internet broadcasting.

ECE graduates are employed in a variety of sectors such as telephone industries, civil aviation, defense, NPL, A.I.R, posts and telegraph department, railways, telecommunication, software engineering/IT, power sector, electronics and hardware manufacturing, home appliances, VLSI design, television and music Industry, automobiles, space communications, embedded systems development, security systems, mobile phone testing and development, communication protocols development, optical communications development, etc. These diverse industries operate more or less similarly across the world, and hence, an Electronics and Communication Engineer has a lot of scope for a global career.
