IEEE DAY

On the occasion of IEEE Day on October 1^st, 2019, IEEE Student Branch of MVJ College of Engineering conducted an awareness program on IEEE, with a Guest Lecture on photonics implementation. Dr. Srinivas Talabattula, Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering, IISc, was the Guest Speaker. Dr. Srinivas Talabattula is an active volunteer of IEEE, Bangalore Section, currently Chapter Coordination Chair. He is also a Chair of the IEEE COMSOC Chapter, Bangalore Section, and Secretary of IEEE Photonics Society Chapter, Bangalore Section. The main motive of this event was to spread awareness about the largest technical organization – IEEE, and to enlighten students about photonics domain and its application.

IEEE is the platform by which the students can improve their technical knowledge, learn about latest trends, and enhance their technical skills. Nearly 120 students attended the event and were engaged by IEEE student volunteers of the college. Prof. Brindha M, Vice-Principal and Branch Counsellor (IEEE Chapter) addressed the gathering.

Then the Guest Speaker took over, first emphasizing on the advantages of having an IEEE membership. The functioning of IEEE, its opportunities and benefits, were clearly explained to the students. The Speaker then shifted the discussion to talk about the various platforms of technology where IEEE is useful in the career of students. Finally, to build enthusiasm in the audience, student members organized technical and non-technical Quiz. The students who answered questions in the quiz where awarded. This event motivated students to come forward to take up IEEE membership.

Outcome of the Event

Students learnt about the functioning of IEEE, the opportunities it offers and its benefits. This drive propelled the students to take up IEEE membership.
