DYNAMECH Club of the Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an event titled ‘Technical Poster Presentation Competition’, in association with ISTE, IIEC and IQAC – MVJCE, on 4th June 2022, from 10.00 am to 01.30 pm. This DYNAMECH Club Activity was designed to impress upon students, the importance of technical poster presentation skills that Engineers must possess. 31 Students participated in the initial qualification round, and out of them 10 students qualified for the final round.

Invitation of the Event

Dr. Vivekanand B Huddar, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, welcomed the Chief Guest and Judge Dr. Shashidhar S, and all the students and faculty to the DYNAMECH club activity. He highlighted the importance of technical poster presentation for young engineers, especially for shaping their careers, and invited Dr. Shashidhar S to address the gathering. Dr. Shashidhar S highlighted the importance of presentation skills and shared some of the key highlights of technical presentations for developing a successful career. The competition started with Dr. Santhosh N, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, giving an overview of the rules and regulations of the event. The Club activity, Technical Poster Presentation Competition, comprised of two major stages. In the first stage, flagged off by the HoD at 10.30 am, the participants were asked to make a poster on the topic ‘ELECTRIC VEHICLES’ on A3 sheets, in the CAMD Lab (Room No. 43). 31 students participated in the forenoon event which was from 10.30 am to 11.45 am. 10 of them qualified for the final round, based on the concept, design, sketch and novelty of the idea presented.

The second stage started at 12.00 pm with the briefing of the rules and regulations for this final round by the event coordinator. The 10 finalists gave presentations of their posters to the judge. Based on their presentation skills and concept of the poster, Dr. Shashidhar S of Collins Aerospace, along with Dr. Rajesh Kumar P and Dr. Santhosh N from the Mechanical Engineering department, judged the winner and runner up. The First prize went to Amal I Kumar of 6th semester B section (USN: 1MJ19ME900) and the Second prize (runner up) went to Kumaresh U Naik of 6th semester A section (USN: 1MJ19ME025). In the end, there was a feedback session, where the students shared their feedback about the event.

Overall, the Club activity was very well coordinated, and students actively participated in the event. The Club activity concluded with a motivational keynote address by the Chief Guest Dr. Shashidhar S, and a group photo.

Outcome of the Club Activity

  1. The students were encouraged to think innovatively while preparing the technical poster.
  2. They understood the key concepts of technical poster presentation, through a hands-on experience.
  3. They were encouraged to recognize the significance of technical presentations in their career.
  4. The faculty and students interacted with the Chief Guest about the latest research carried out in the industry.
  5. The Chief Guest shared his knowledge on the analysis of the composites for aerospace structures and gave inputs for the proposed Centre of Excellence on polymer matrix composites.
