Induction Programme Report 2020-21


MVJCE always wants its students to have a broad understanding of society and relationships. We, at MVJCE, believe that every student’s character needs to be nurtured as an essential and non-negotiable quality, by which he would understand and fulfil his responsibility as an engineer, a citizen and a human being.

MVJCE always works closely with the new students in making them feel comfortable, allowing them to explore their academic interests and activities, building a healthy competition that makes them strive for excellence. We promote a steadfast and long lasting bonding among them, build relationships between teachers and students, give a broader view of life, and build character.

Student Induction Program – Concept and Purpose

The purpose of our Student Induction Program is to help new students settle in and feel comfortable in the new environment, inculcate in them the ethos and culture of the institution, help them build bonds with other students and faculty members, and expose them to the sense of larger purpose and self-exploration.

This year, the induction program was conducted in the online mode, using the Microsoft Teams platform. Because of Covid, the induction program was shortened to one week.

This Inaugural function for First Year students, which marks the beginning of their Academic Year 2020-21, and signifies their first step into their Engineering career was held in the virtual mode, on 10th December 2020, at 11am. Dr. P Mahabaleshwarappa, Principal, MVJCE, briefed the students on the Vision and Mission of the College. The Principal also listed out the infrastructure available in the College. And he also advised the students to set the right path for their future.

As the current scenario demands, a session was held on Awareness of Covid19 – SoP followed by the College. This session was handled by Dr. Shoiab Kamal, Associate Professor, Department of ECE, who is also our Covid Cell In Charge.

The next session was conducted by Prof. Vaman B Gudi, Registrar and Controller of Examination, on the rules and regulations of VTU and the Autonomous Board. He also introduced UGC Guidelines for Autonomous Colleges. MVJCE comes under this scheme and will be able to determine and prescribe its own courses, restructure and redesign the syllabi to suit corporate needs, and make it skill-oriented in consonance with job requirements.

The major objective of the Induction program was to make students aware of the academic aspects of the course and the rules and regulations of autonomous colleges. The presentation created a significant impact on the students, and it will help to motivate them to touch great heights.The students were made aware of academic terminology – Choice based education, Outcome based education, Credit system, Grading system, conditions for Vertical Progression, Assessment methods, Attendance requirements, Course duration, earning of Activity points, and conditions for the award of the degree and rank.

The following activities were conducted during the week-long Induction program.

Mentoring and Imparting Universal Human Values

Mentoring and connecting the students with faculty members is the most important part of student Induction. Mentoring took place in the context and setting of Universal Human Values. It got the student to explore oneself and experience the joy of learning, prepared the student to stand up to peer pressure and take decisions with courage, be aware of relationships and be sensitive to others, understand the role of money in life and experience the feeling of prosperity. The need for character building has been underlined by many thinkers, and universal human values provide the base.

Literary Activity

Literary activities were conducted such as reading a book, writing a summary, debating, enacting a play etc. Literary activities foster co-ordination, adjustment and speech fluency. Extempore and debating skills teaches students to stand up for their rights. It creates a chance for all round development. Exposure to soft skills, using Computer commands of Solid Edge, MATlab and Auto Cad, made the program interesting and beneficial.

Proficiency Modules

The Induction program was used to overcome some critical lacunas the students might have, for example, English language skills, familiarity with computer etc. The students were made to understand the importance of written communication. They were given hands-on-training in Ms-Excel, word and power-point.

Extra-Curricular Activities in College

The new students were introduced to the extra-curricular activities at the College/University. The facilities were shown to them, in a virtual conducted tour, and they were informed about activities related to different clubs etc.

Lecture by an eminent personality

MVJCE had invited Dr. G N Mohapatra, Senior scientist, CSIR, 4th paradigm, to address the freshers. Dr. G N Mohapatra started his presentation with an introduction to the CSIR- 4th Paradigm Institute, and went on to speak about its role in weather forecasting. Later, the Speaker briefed the students on the basics of mathematical modelling and their classification along with engineering applications.


Physical Activity

A session was conducted on Yoga and Meditation, too, to emphasize its importance. The purpose of yoga is to build strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body. MVJCE believes in the old saying ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’. Through its health programs, MVJCE endeavors to reduce the incidence of risky behaviour in students, and increase the odds of academic success by promoting physical education at all levels. Investing in students’ physical health today will allow them to reap rich rewards far into the future.

Creative Arts

Every student has the option to choose a skill related to the arts, whether it is visual arts or performing arts. Examples: Painting, Music, Dance, Pottery, Sculpture etc. The student can pursue his chosen art form every day, through the entire duration of his Engineering program. Pursuing an art allows for creative expression. It develops a sense of aesthetics and also enhances creativity which flows into Engineering design, later.

Local area Visit

In normal times, the students are taken on a visit to a local area, to awaken their commitment to society. Since the program was conducted in online mode this time, a session was conducted where the different parts of Bengaluru were explained.
