Brief write up about the course structure of Aeronautical Engineering

The Curriculum of the Aeronautical Engineering course has been framed based on NEP guidelines, with focus on Multidisciplinary education, after incorporating the suggestions of eminemt people from Industry and Academia. All the recommendations of NEP have been carefully considered while framing the syllabus, keeping students abreast of the latest trends and technologies in the Aeronautical Industry. In tune with the NEP, the Curriculum offers students the flexibility to select courses, in the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The new syllabus has basic science courses, professional core courses, integrated professional core courses, professional electives, open electives and ability enhancement courses, with a credit structure of 160 credit points.

Besides the Professional Core courses of Elements of Aeronautics, Incompressible Aerodynamics, Aircraft Performance, Finite Element Methods and Computational Fluid Dynamics, Ability enhancement courses such as Aerospace Materials, Turbomachines, Research Methodology & IPR/Life Science, Aircraft Maintenance Repair and Overhaul have also been included in the syllabus, for enhancing the career growth potential of our Aeronautical Engineering graduates.

Various Integrated Professional core courses like Mechanism and Machine Theory, Fundamentals of Aircraft Structures, Mechanics of Materials¸ Mechanics of Fluids, Compressible Aerodynamics, Aircraft Propulsion, Aircraft Stability and Control, Aircraft Structural Analysis, Aircraft Design have been introduced, for students to gain exposure to both the theoretical and practical aspects of Aeronautical Engineering.

Latest and trendy courses like Aircraft Systems and Instrumentation, Theory of Vibration, Gas Turbine Technology, General Introduction to Aeronautics, Introduction to Helicopters, Helicopter Aerodynamics, Rocket and Missiles, Flight Testing, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Guidance Navigation and Control are offered as electives, for enhancing the knowledge and skillsets of the students.

The students can Major in Aeronautical Engineering, with a provision to get minor degrees in AI, DS, IoT, etc., by earning extra 18 credits. This promotes Multidisciplinary education, one of the tenets of the NEP. Students can get an Honors Degree by earning extra 18 credits. The syllabus also includes Experiential Learning Components, NPTEL Video Links, and Practical Applications of the course content.

Thus, the Aeronautical Engineering Curriculum aligns with the vision of NEP, keeping in mind the holistic development of Aeronautical Engineers, grooming them into well-rounded, creative individuals, instilling in them character, ethical values and a scientific temper, to prepare them for a meaningful career that can contribute in a big way to nation-building
