Prof.R.Kumar, i/c HoD of ISE/CD, MVJCE, inaugurated the event, and transferred his Industry knowledge about Cloud Computing to the students.

Lecture Summary:

The expert speaker Mr. Uday Kumar started his talk by giving introduction about cloud computing. He started with the challenges the IT industry would face, if cloud computing wouldn’t have existed and the problems, the industry would have faced.

He gave brief introduction on characteristics of cloud computing:

  • Broad Network Access
  • Rapid Elasticity
  • Measured Service, Pay on use
  • On Demand, Self Service
  • Resource Pooling

Followed by he spoke about three important service models, by giving clear difference among the service models based on flexibility, control and responsibilities of each service model in cloud computing:

  • SaaS (Software as a Service)
  • PaaS (Platform as a Service)
  • IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)

Further he continued the discussions with the four types of deployment models along with the differences, based on security between the models:

  • Private
  • Public
  • Hybrid
  • Community

He made us understand the importance of cloud computing in IT Industry, advantages of cloud computing and he gave detailed overview on how cloud is playing a prominent role in IT as well as in our daily routine. For example: e-commerce sites. He listed the advantages of using cloud over the traditional storage:

  • Access Anywhere
  • Easy Implementation
  • No upfront cost
  • Pay per Usage
  • Better Security
  • Maintenance Free
  • Instant Scalability

Finally he concluded with some of the use cases of cloud computing by telling us how it’s better than the traditional one, and how many fields are prominently making use of cloud:

  • Traffic/Load Bursting
  • Backup/Disaster
  • Web Hosting
  • Development and Testing
  • Proof of Concepts
  • Big Data/ Data Manipulation

And finally he listed some of the top cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, IBM Cloud, Microsoft ,Google , VM-ware etc.

Participants showed keen interest in learning the concepts, methodologies and gave satisfactory feedback at the end of the session.

Outcome of the Event:

The participants understood the concepts in Cloud Computing, its advantages, applications and challenges. They were also were familiarized with Microsoft Azure Platform for setting up the Cloud environment. The Guest Lecture aimed to bridge the gap between study materials and practical exposure - and the students benefited from the PO’s Engineering Knowledge, Problem Analysis, Design/Development of solutions, Modern Tool Usage and Life Long Learning.
