A Workshop on ‘Application of SketchUp in 3D Modelling’ was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on 8th June, 2022, in Smt. Rajalakshmi Seminar Hall, maintaining all covid-related SOPs. 88 Students and 18 Faculty members from the Civil Engineering Department participated in this Workshop.

SketchUp is one of the popular 3D modelling and design tools which is intuitive and powerful, helping professionals and students in the creative implementation of their architectural ideas. The suite of tools within the program enhances the opportunity to work across a variety of industries, including architecture, engineering, construction, wood working and interior design etc. The main aim of this Workshop was to make the students learn and practice the 3D modelling software. The Workshop included hands-on training on SketchUp software, by practicing basic tools of operations. The students got exposure to rendering Software like V-Ray and Lumion, too.

The Workshop started with the arrival of the dignitaries on the dais. The dignitaries present were Mr. Nawaz Pasha, (Chief Managing Officer at CADD Centre, K. R. Puram, Bangalore), Mr. Junaid (Trainer at CADD Centre, K. R. Puram, Bangalore), Dr. P Mahabaleswarappa (Principal, MVJCE), Dr. N. Vetrivel (Head of Civil Engineering Department, MVJCE) and Prof. Muralidhara R (Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, MVJCE). The Master of Ceremony was Prof. Asra Fathima (Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, MVJCE). Dr. N. Vetrivel delivered the welcome address, welcoming the Chief Guest, and introduced him to the gathering. He also welcomed the Principal. Prof. Muralidhara R delivered the Keynote address. Then, opening remarks were given by the Principal, Dr. P Mahabaleswarappa.

Mr. Nawaz Pasha then took over the session. He started by giving an overview of the importance of practical knowledge in the Civil Engineering field, and the importance of software tools in bridging the gap between industry and academics He gave a brief introduction on the basic tools of SketchUp, and threw in some important tips which are handy in using SketchUp effectively.

The Introductory session was followed by practical sessions, where hands-on training was given to students on the various tools used in SketchUp. Several Projects ware given to them, to help them get a detailed understanding of the software.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Muralidhara R, extending gratitude to the esteemed Guest Speaker for his presence and an excellent Workshop session, to the Management of MVJCE for providing an opportunity to organize such events, to the Principal Dr. P Mahabaleswarappa and Vice Principal Dr. M. Brindha for their constant support and encouragement, faculty of Civil Engineering Department and all the Civil Engineering students for their participation. He also thanked the IT helpdesk, non-teaching staff and technicians for their assistance and support.
