The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Contribution of Micro Inverters in Growth of Solar Power Applications’. The session was organized on 21st February 2023, at Seminar Hall 4, from 1.30pm to 4.00 pm. The students of 3rd, 6th and 8th semesters, EEE, and the faculty of the EEE department attended the event. The Lecture was presided over by Dr. P. Mahabaleswarappa, Principal, MVJCE and Dr. Soumya Mishra, HOD, EEE, MVJCE.

The event started at 1.30 pm with the Welcome Speech and Guest Introduction. After this, the Guest Speaker Mr. Nanda Kishore L, Deputy Manager, BHEL, Bangalore, took over the session. He first explained about the usage of solar PV system design and inverters in the present power system engineering, and the various applications of micro inverters in solar power applications. He also spoke about the design and integration of various inverters (string inverters, micro inverters) for each solar panel to convert DC supply to AC supply. Finally, he explained how solar panels are designed in BHEL, for various power system applications and space research.

Outcome of the Lecture

The students were able to

  • Understand how renewable energy sources reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as a result of which, power supply is more reliable.
  • Select which inverter is to be integrated for solar PV system, analyze how changes in inverter functionality affect the other components of the power system.
  • Understand the laboratories used for designing the solar PV panels and grid emulators for integrating renewable energy systems, to analyze relevant issues.
