The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on Technology of Batteries for Energy Storage and Use. The session was organized on 28th June 2023, at MVJCE Auditorium, from 11.00 am to 01.00 pm. 4th semester students from the departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering attended the event. The Guest Lecture was presided over by Dr. Suresh Babu, Principal, MVJCE, and Dr. Brindha M, Vice Principal, MVJCE.

The event started at 11.00 am with welcome speech and guest introduction. Mr. Ashok Nagarkatti, Technical Adviser, HBL Power Systems Ltd., Bangalore, was the Resource Speaker for this session on key components, challenges, and advancements in the field of EV energy storage systems. The Guest Lecture on the ‘Technology of Batteries for Energy Storage and Use’ provided valuable insights into the fundamental components, challenges, and advancements in battery technology. The esteemed Speaker shed light on these crucial aspects, fostering a deeper understanding on these concepts, among the audience. During the lecture, Mr. Ashok Nagarkatti elaborated on the key components of batteries, including Electrodes, Electrolyte, Separator, and Current Collectors. This foundational knowledge laid the groundwork for comprehending the intricacies of battery technology.

Furthermore, Mr. Ashok Nagarkatti highlighted the challenges arising around the widespread adoption of battery technology. He underscored the significant hurdles such as energy density, cost, cycle life and durability, drawing the attention of the audience to the obstacles that researchers and manufacturers strive to overcome. He also showcased the remarkable advancements that have effectively tackled these challenges. Lithium-Ion Batteries, Solid-State Batteries, Advanced Materials and Battery Management Systems (BMS) were among the notable advancements that were discussed. These innovations have revolutionized the field, enhancing energy density, safety, longevity and cost-effectiveness.
