The Department of Chemical Engineering organized a one-day Workshop on ‘Career tracks for chemical engineers (Process Control and Optimization)’, for 7th semester Chemical Engineering students, on 29th December 2021, at Seminar Hall 5. The Workshop was organized in collaboration with the Institute of Process and Control Engineers. Mr. Sanjay Venugopal was the Guest Speaker for the Workshop.

About the Speaker

Mr. Sanjay Venugopal was the Guest Speaker for the Workshop. He is working as Senior Technologist in Yokogawa, Bangalore. He is also the Coordinator of Institute of Process and Control Engineers. He has an experience of 21 years in the field of advanced Process Control project execution and technology development. He has worked at different companies like Honeywell and Aspentech, leading advanced process control technology for refineries and petrochemicals. Also, he has actively involved in sharing the industrial experience with academia.

A Brief Account of the Lecture

The session started with the welcome address by Dr. Mahabaleswarappa, Principal, MVJCE. He welcomed the audience and the Guest Speaker. He underlined the necessity of the workshop and spoke about the significance of adaptation of multidisciplinary aspects to progress in their careers for Chemical Engineers. He elaborated the current trends in industrial automation.

The Workshop's goal was to familiarize Chemical Engineering students with the chemical process industry and to emphasize the necessity of process control and optimization. The Workshop endeavored to enlighten the students on basic, advanced, and industrial process control, by providing them the essential course material complemented by a hands-on session on Process Control.

Events

The session was hosted by Ms. Khajatarannum Anjum of 7th Semester, who started the session with a Welcome Note to our Guest and to all the students of 7th Semester and faculty members of the Chemical Engineering Department. The Guest was introduced to the gathering by Ms. Maithri G, after which the Guest Speaker Mr. Sanjay Venugopal took to the stage and started the Workshop. The Workshop was split into four sessions.

Events

The first session which was conducted from 10.15 am to 11.10 am, educated the students on bridging classroom learning with an Industrial perspective through complete life cycle of Chemical Engineering plant. The second session was conducted from 11.10 am to 12.10 pm. In this session students gained knowledge about Chemical process industry and importance of process control and optimization. Types of control systems, controlled variables, types of controllers and introduction to Simulation software were dealt with in this session.
