One Day Workshop on “Microwave, Antenna and Machine Learning”

IEEE, MVJCE STUDENT BRANCH organized a One-day Workshop on ‘Microwave, Antenna and Machine Learning’, on 22nd September, 2018.

The One-day Workshop was organized in two sessions:

1st Session: Lecture on ‘Microwave and Antenna for Satellite Applications and Measurements’, by Mr. Puneeth Kumar Mishra.

2nd Session: Lecture on ‘Art of Science and Machine Learning’, by Dr. Dinesh K Anvekar.

The first session was handled by Mr. Puneeth Kumar Mishra, Vice Chair, IEEE Bangalore Section and Head, Satellite and Antenna division, ISRO. He started his discussion by highlighting the importance of microwave and antenna basics in satellite applications. He spoke about the importance of antennas in our day to day life, and related it to satellite applications, to motivate towards antenna field. Later, he underscored the benefits of IEEE Student Branch and membership, to attract students to technical fields.

The second session was handled by Dr. Dinesh K Anvekar, Former Researcher, Director R & D and Innovation, VVIT Bangalore. Dr. Anvekar started his discussion by focusing on the importance of Conventional Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence. He related Artificial Intelligence with Machine Learning, and discussed about various applications involved in Machine Learning, and about the implementation of robotics using machine learning.

The students asked several questions related to Antennas, IEEE membership benefits and Machine Learning to both the speakers. The speakers answered the questions, quoting real-life examples. Overall, both the sessions were very informative, and helped the students to enhance their knowledge in two different fields.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Mohammed Rilwan, Student Chair, MVJCE IEEE Student Branch.

Outcome of the Event:

  1. Students learnt about the types of antenna, and their application in satellite communication.
  2. Students understood the benefits of IEEE membership.
  3. Students got insight about the basic concepts of machine learning and its applications.
