PG Program – Structural Engineering

The Curriculum of the PG Program in Structural Engineering has been framed to meet the NEP (National Education Policy) requirements, by focusing on a holistic approach to the teaching-learning process. It offers flexibility in the selection of professional and open elective courses, thus encouraging Multidisciplinary educataion, one of the main tenets of NEP 2020. The Curriculum has been carefully designed, taking into consideration all the recommendations of NEP, with inputs from eminent experts from Academia and Industry.

The course structure has 80 Credits, with 22 in the Odd semester and 18 in the Even semester. Courses related to Skill and Career advancements have been added to the program. Professional Courses on Special Concrete and Finite Element analysis are integrated with skill-based laboratories. The Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC) that students have to study in the First year, in the fields of Health monitoring of Structures and Challenges in Construction Management, under online platforms like NPTEL, SWAYAM and other MOOCs, enhance the professional skills of students.

Professional Electives covering different fields of Structural Engineering like Prestressed Concrete, Earthquake resistant structures, Precast and Composite structures, Reliability analysis, Concrete bridges, Plates & Shells, Fracture mechanics and Industrial structures, are introduced in the 2nd and 3rd semesters.

Advanced Mathematical method, Research methodology and IPT have been included in the scheme, to improve the computation skills and research perspective of students and equip them to approach societal challenges. Apart from the courses mentioned above, Internships, Mini-Projects, Seminars, Online Certification Courses and plenty of Project work on societal issues help in the comprehensive development of our students – one of the important goals of NEP.

NEP was formulated by the Government of India in 2020, to ensure that higher education prepares youngsters to face the society boldly, and contribute meaningfully to the world around them. The Curriculum for the PG program in Structural Engineering strives to make this possible, by producing Post graduates who are not only skilled professionally, but also possess a scientific temper, strength of character and ethical values.
