Big Data  is ubiquitous these days, and sometimes we might not even realize how much it affects our everyday lives. It is getting harder and harder to function in normal society without the presence of Big Data somehow in our life. Many of the changes are so convenient that we barely notice them. We can say that Big Data is everywhere today.

The main objective of this  webinar was to give an awareness on evolution of Bigdata, various aspects and applications of it & how this technology is influencing everything in our lives.

With this aim in mind, the Department of Information Science & Engineering, MVJCE organized a webinar on 27th June 2020 for UG/PG students, faculty members, research scholars and industry personnel.

The Resource Speaker for the webinar was Mr. Balamurugan Natarajan, who is an experienced Manager with a demonstrated history of 15yrs of working exp in the information technology and services industry. He is Skilled in Oracle Database, Requirements Analysis, PL/SQL, Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Java & many more. At present Mr. Balamurugan is working as Oracle Architect – in CognizantTechnology Solutions.

Mr. Balamurugan Natarajan began the session by making the distinction between the following two technologies as they are applied differently in the field of “Bigdata”.

“Big data”: Large and/or complex data sets that exceeds the capacity of traditional relational databases to capture, manage and process data with low latency.

“Data Analytics”: The use of advanced techniques (mining, natural language processing) to analyze previously untapped data sources independent or together with their existing enterprise data to gain new insights resulting in faster and better decisions.

He has explained Bigdata as combination of three ‘V’s:

 (1) Velocity, (2) Variety and (3) Volume.

During his session, he covered following digital forces namely:

  • Big Data Analytics
  • Cloud Computing
  • Social Media

Mr. Balamurugan used following diagram to explain the relation of data in processing huge amount of information.

He has demonstrated need of data protection with the right regulatory mix and how to collaborate to uphold privacy in digital age with co-regulation and consultation. At the end, he has urged to enhance data awareness to develop a culture of data protection. Outcome of the event: All the participants found the event as interactive and effective. The participants understood how to process massive amounts of data that are available both in structured and unstructured form and how to analyze those data in an iterative, as well as in a time sensitive manner.
