The 55th Engineer’s Day celebration was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, MVJCE, to commemorate the 162nd birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, on 15th September 2022 at 11:00 am, in Smt. Rajalakshmi Seminar Hall. Around 100 faculty members, Heads from all the Engineering Departments and 30 PG students participated.

The event started with the arrival of the dignitaries on the dais. The Chief Guest Shri M. Sankaran (Director, U R Rao Satellite Centre, Bangalore), Dr. P. Mahabaleswarappa (Principal, MVJCE) and Dr. M. Brindha (Vice-Principal, MVJCE) were present on the dais. At the start of the event, a short documentary on the life and work of Sir M. Visvesvaraya made the audience understand him better, and look up to him in awe and admiration.

The event proceeded with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Dr. N. Vetrivel (Head of Department of Civil Engineering) delivered the welcome address, following which Dr. P. Mahabaleswarappa addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of Engineer’s Day celebration, and enlightening the gathering about Sir M. V’s extraordinary life. The Master of Ceremony was Prof. Apoorva Kiran (Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering). Prof. Asra Fathima (Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering) gave a brief introduction about the Chief Guest Shri M. Sankaran.

The Chief Guest Shri M. Sankaran addressed the gathering, giving interesting and fascinating facts about the greatest Engineer that history has witnessed, Sir M. V. The audience got to know hitherto unknown facts about Sir Visvesvaraya’s life. As a token of appreciation and respect for the Chief Guest for his time and valuable inputs, a memento was presented to him by Dr. M. Brindha.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Anupama (Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering), extending gratitude to the esteemed Chief Guest, to the Principal and Vice Principal for their constant support and encouragement for organizing such events, to Dr. N Vetrivel, Head of Department of Civil Engineering for his valuable suggestions and support, and to all the Heads and faculty of other Engineering Departments for their participation. She also thanked the IT helpdesk, non-teaching staff and technicians for their contribution.

Outcome of the Event:

The event which was organized to commemorate the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya that is celebrated every year by the Engineering fraternity, helped the participants to understand the significance of celebrating Engineer’s Day. The event gave an insight into some interesting facets of Sir M. Visvesvaraya’s life and his tremendous contributions.
