Export and Import of Chemicals and their Allied Products

A Guest Lecture on ‘Export and Import of Chemicals and their Allied Products’ was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE, on 10th June 2023, from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon, at Seminar Hall 6, MVJCE. The Guest Speaker for the event was Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Venkatesan, Research Analyst, Sandler & Travis, Bangalore. The lecture was attended by 40 participants (both students and faculty) from MVJCE.

About the Speaker

Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Venkatesan is working as Research Analyst at Sandler & Travis, Bangalore. Earlier, she was working as Advisory Specialist at Cargil, Bangalore. She has been working as Data Analyst, from 2015 to 2018. She secured her B.E from MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore.

A Brief Account of the Lecture

The session started with welcome address by Mrs. Lekshmi R Babu, Asst. Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering. She reiterated the necessity for the Guest Lecture, highlighting the legitimate use of chemicals in the Chemical Engineering field.

The Speaker started the lecture with a discussion on the day-to-day activities related to domestic and foreign trade, in various applications. A major shortcoming of adopting traditional strategies is the fact that solving Chemical Engineering problems is often impossible, if not very difficult, due to trade compliance issues. Various case studies were discussed by Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Venkatesan, to help students understand the concepts of HS code, export management etc. The speaker pointed out the importance of regional trade agreements and Incoterms in the present scenario, explaining this through easily understandable flow charts.

The Speaker stressed upon the importance of developing advanced technology for enhancing performance in custom management and export controls, in day-to-day life. Finally, she concluded her lecture by speaking about the present job scenario in the Chemical Engineering field. After this, a Q&A session was conducted where the Speaker addressed the queries of the attendees.

The lecture concluded with a vote of thanks to the MVJ management, Principal and CoE of MVJCE for providing this opportunity to students, to gain knowledge on the export and import of chemicals and their allied products. The event organizers expressed their gratitude to the Guest Speaker Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Venkatesan for sharing informative and impressive aspects of the export and import of chemicals in Chemical Engineering applications, and motivating the interested young generation to switch to this new domain. Outcome of the Event

The lecture enabled the attendees to strengthen their knowledge about the export and import of chemicals. The attendees learnt about the various aspects of international trade and licenses. They got insights into industry needs, the latest technical appraisals, and research areas related to this field.
