The Department of Mathematics, MVJ College of Engineering, organized a MATLITE Club Activity ‘Math Mastery’, on 25th February 2023, at Smt. Rajalakshmi Seminar Hall. The event started at 8.30 am, with an introduction to the event ‘Math Mastery’. 100 groups of students from the First Year (with two individuals in each group), from various sections of Physics and Chemistry cycles participated actively in this event. Prof. Veerappa Gowda, TIFR CAM, Bangalore, was the Chief Guest for this Club activity.

The activity comprised of two Rounds, Preliminary and Final Rounds. The main aim of this Club activity was to make sure that the students would use their basic Mathematical logic, to solve aptitude-based questions, effectively.

In the Preliminary Round, the participants were expected to solve 10 basic Mathematical logic questions, in the stipulated time of 20 minutes. The participants were then shortlisted, based on their answers to these questions and the time taken to answer them. The participants who gave the appropriate answers in the shortest time qualified to the Final Round.

The Final Round was conducted at M V Jayaraman Auditorium. In this Round, the participants had to solve 10 pictorial logical questions based on Higher Mathematics – questions on Matrices, decoding, guessing the famous mathematician and so on.

Based on the marks scored and the time taken to complete the questions, the First and Second prizes were awarded, with cash prizes and certificates.

Following are the details of the Winner and Runner-up:

  1. Harsh Biradar and Manikanth Biradar from ‘B’ section secured the First Prize.
  2. Virupakshaih and Joshua Antony Royar from ‘G’ section secured the Second Prize.

Outcome of the Event

The event enabled the students to understand the importance of logical Mathematics in quantitative aptitude. This activity enhances an individual’s logical thinking. The activity also trains a student to work within a stipulated time, without stress. The main aim of this activity was to make sure that a student would be able identify the logic and solve quantitative aptitude questions. And this aim was achieved.
