A Club activity on “Fun with science” was organized by the Department of Chemical Engineering, MVJCE on August 14, 2023, from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM in seminar hall 5, MVJCE. The Guest for the event was D.R. Kumaraswamy, Former, Member secretary, of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Bangalore. The activity was attended by 28 participants from students of MVJCE.
About the Activity
The club activity was centered around applying conceptual knowledge to create reactors used in various industries. The activity also included different rounds, such as an educational quiz with a twist in the form of a snake and ladder game, as well as cooperative chemical experiments.
A Brief Account of the Activity
The session commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Subash and Mr. Sathlaj, both students from the Department of Chemical Engineering. They emphasized the significance of the activity and outlined the rules and procedures for the event.
The activity began with a time-bound educational quiz combined with a snake and ladder game, where students participated in groups. The winning groups from this quiz proceeded to round 2, which was also a team-based competition. In this round, teams had to act out the properties of various chemicals without verbally stating their names; it was again a time-bound activity.
Following round 2, the selected teams participated in a crafty activity with a time limit. They were tasked with designing reactors using materials provided to them.
After the conclusion of the third round, the chief guest had the opportunity to review the creativity displayed by all the groups. From the participants, the chief guest selected two winning teams: the first winner was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1000, and the second winner received a prize of Rs 500.
Prize Winners:
First Prize – Ashika & Nanditha of IV semester, Chemical Engineering.
Second Prize – Huzaifa & Sahal of IV semester, Chemical Engineering.
Students presenting the works to the Guest D.R. Kumaraswamy
The activity concluded with a vote of thanks given by Prof. Megala (HOD incharge) Chemical engineering department to the MVJ management, Principal, and CoE of MVJCE for providing this opportunity. The event organizers were grateful to Chief Guest D.R. Kumaraswamy for delivering informative and impressive aspects on the major advantage of clarity on the concept and its use in making real-life reactors. A special mention was given to IT HELP DESK and the team for their technical support during the session.
