A one-day Industrial Visit to Yelesandra Solar Power Plant 3MW, Kolar, was organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, on 10th March 2023, for the 6th semester students of the department. 30 of our students visited the organization, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Soumya Mishra and Mrs. Vaishali N B.
This plant has been set up on 15 acres of land, generating 15,000 units of power a day, and is expected to generate about 5 million units a year, at a plant load factor of 20 per cent. The plant is automatic and can be monitored from anywhere with the help of a computer, as it is SCADA operated.
Our students visited the various sections of the Power Plant, like Solar panel, Invertor unit, Transformer unit and SCADA and Grid connection. After the visit, they are able to understand the concept of Solar energy, working of photovoltaic cell, working of Solar panel, conversion of DC to AC by using Invertor unit, step up of voltage by transformer unit and distribution of energy by grid connection. They can estimate the size and cost of the land that is required for setting up a solar power plant, for domestic or commercial use. They are aware of the benefits offered by Central and State governments, for setting up a solar power plant
Outcome of the Event:
- The students understood about solar panel distribution, and working of junction box (array junction box).
- They understood about the series connection of solar cells, and working of Inverter (AIC Inverter).
- The visit helped students in attaining the program outcome. It will be useful for their main projects also.
