Report on Industrial Visit to Central Manufacturing Technology Institute

Department of Mechanical Engineering of MVJ College, organized an industrial visit to Central Manufacturing Technology Institute, Tumkur Road, Yeshwanthpur Industrial Area, Phase 1, Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru – 560 022.

Mr. Raghu B, Librarian-CMTI, was the point of contact for the Industrial Visit. Total 34 students of IV semester along with Faculty Coordinator Prof. Shivakumar H D reached the company premises at 12:45 p.m. All the safety protocols were submitted at the company’s reception and in return students were given visitor ID cards by the authorities. Later they gathered at the company’s lounge.

The students along with the faculty member were received by Mr. Raghu B, Librarian-CMTI, and were briefed about the day’s agenda.

The students and faculty members then assembled at the Conference Hall. The students were instructed the Do’s and Don’ts in the company premises followed by the introduction of the company by Mr. Raghu B.

Mr. Ram Prasad –the Security head instructed the safety protocols and all safety tools were issued to the students before visiting the company facilities.

The company arranged Lunch for all the students and the faculty member at 1:30 pm. This was followed by a meaningful interaction in the Canteen Lounge area.

Post Lunch the industrial visit started at 2:00 pm. The students and faculty were taken to the Precision metrology and calibration lab. The students were briefed about all the tools and equipment in the department. The process of testing was explained by the department engineer, Mr. Jagadeesh M L. This was followed by a visit to the Micro Nano Metrology division. The engineer Dr. Aravind L S explained about the Product development and the Rapid Prototyping Machines at the division.

At 3:30 p.m. the students and faculty members were taken to the Machine tool and special purpose equipment lab. The students were briefed about all the tools and equipment in the department. The process of testing was also explained by the department engineer, Mr. Kirankumar M D. Then the departmental heads gathered back at Conference Hall for a Question-and-Answer session, and they collected the feedback. The students were elated and expressed their gratitude. The Industrial visit provided a great insight into the technical, process machinery, and testing equipment. On behalf of the college Prof. Shivakumar H D expressed his gratitude to the company officials for Industrial Visit. Finally, a group photo was taken by the end of the Industrial visit at the Company entrance gate.

Outcomes of the Industrial Visit:

  • The students were able to understand the design and manufacture of critical motion control components and the ability to build and integrate entire systems.
  • The students had an overview of the design and development center involved in several critical projects focused on the design of complicated systems and components.
  • They were also exposed to the process of establishing a state-of-the-art qualification laboratory for testing components for all types of designs.
  • The student’s interaction with the test engineers involved in qualification testing, data reduction and analysis, testing engineering environment software, legacy test software conversion, build-to-print systems and support and simulation provided an insight into the latest research avenues.
  • The Co-ordinate Measurement Machines test facilities gave in detailed overview of the information generated by computers and precision motion control using robotics.
