Modified UAV
DoBaSS-UAV was a design competition abbreviated for Docking and Battery Swapping System for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The competition was organized by The Aeronautical Society of India and sponsored by Ansys on 18th and 19th of November 2023 at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi. The competition was held along with the international conference cum exhibition, Aerospace & Aviation-2047, whose inaugural was done by the President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest, the Minister of State for Defense, and many high dignitaries DRDO and other eminent Scientists of the country.
The competition was divided into three stages, Video report, Design report, and Final Presentation having a total prize pool of Rupees 2 lakhs. All over India, 92 teams participated in the competition, upon completion of the video report submission 32 teams were qualified for the second stage. Out of 32 teams, 5 teams were selected for the final stage. The top 5 teams were invited to Delhi for the final stage of the competition. Participants were supposed to present their ideas to solve the problem statement provided by the organizing committee.
The problem Statement aimed to achieve three objectives, Converting an existing fixed-wing UAV to a hybrid VTOL quad plane with the help of four fixed motors, Conceptual design of an aerial docking system and battery swapping mechanism for the modified UAV that works in tandem to the docking system. In the final presentation stages, the top 5 teams presented the salient features of their conceptual design to the expert committee.
The top 5 teams were Team Pegasus (MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore), Team Ikaris (Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore), Team Foxbat (Anjuman-i-islam’s Kaleskar Technical campus, Mumbai), Team Meghdoot (RV college of engineering, Bangalore), Team Skyriders (M S Ramaiah university of applied sciences, Bangalore). The Winners of the competition are as follows, First Prize (70,000 Rs) Team Ikaris, Second prize (60,000 Rs) Team Foxbat, Third prize (30,000 Rs) Team Skyriders, Consolation Prize (20,000 Rs) Team Pegasus and Team Meghdoot.
