Report on Chemistry Club Activity – Just a minute on science topics (EXTEMPORE)

The Department of Chemistry conducted a Chemistry club activity – Just a minute on science topics (extempore).

Venue: Room No: 315, MVJ College of Engineering, Bangalore.
Coordinators: Dr. Budigi Lokesh, Assistant Professor and Dr. M. Swetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry.
Guest speaker and Judge for the event: Dr. Dinesh Rangappa, Professor, Department of Applied Sciences (Nanotechnology) Center for PG studies, VTU Bengaluru.
Date and Timings: 26-08-2023; 09:30 AM to 11:00 AM
Chemistry Club Activity Topic: Just a minute on science topics (Extempore).

This program is intended for first-year chemistry cycle students. 112 students registered and 100 students participated in the event.

The activity was conducted in 2 rounds. In the first round students were asked to pick a chit from the pool of chits and asked to talk on the topic given in the chit for about 2 minutes. Student’s performance is evaluated based on their “ability to think spontaneously, thinking process, understanding of the topics, and clarity of expression”.

Out of the 100 student participants, 40 students were selected for the second round after an assessment by the guests Dr. Dinesh Rangappa, Dr. M. Swetha, and Dr. Budigi Lokesh. Similar to the first round, students were asked to pick a chit from the pool and speak on the topic for about 1.5 minutes, with evaluations conducted in the same manner as in the first round.

Dr. Dinesh Rangappa announced the results. Mr. Mohit Gowda (1MJCG022) Ms. Jelin (1MJ22CD017) secured 1st and 2nd place in the activity.
