Two-day Introductory Workshop on ROBOTICS

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a Two-day Introductory Workshop on ‘Robotics’, under ‘CoE in Robotics and Industrial Automation’. Through this training, the students became familiar with the Basics of Raspberry Pi, ROS Software, Linux-based commands and Gazebo Simulation. This training was conducted and coordinated by Dr. Soumya Sundar Pattanayak (AP/ECE) and Mr. L. David William Raj (AP/ECE). 40 students from ECE, ISE, CSE, and AI/ML participated in this Workshop.

The Workshop started at 10:00 am, on 5th January 2023. The dignitaries on the stage were Dr. P. Mahabaleswarappa (Principal, MVJCE), Dr. P. Murali Krishna (Scientist-F, CAIR DRDO) and Dr. I. Hameem Shanavas (HOD-ECE, MVJCE).

The opening remarks for the Workshop were given by Dr. P. Mahabaleswarappa. He gave a quick update on the Robotics activities going on in MVJ College of Engineering.

The first session of Day 1 started off with a lecture by Dr. P. Murali Krishna, Scientist-F, CAIR, DRDO. His talk dealt with the applications of robotics in the Defence sector. In the next session, he discussed the basic of robotics.

The Day 2 programme began at 10:00 am. The dignitaries on the stage were Dr. Ajith (Associate Professor, ECE, MVJCE), Dr. Thilagaraj (Associate Professor, ECE, MVJCE), Dr. Utsab Banerjee (Assistant Professor, ECE, MVJCE) and Dr. Koushik Das (Scientist, TCS Research Innovation Lab) and his team members, Mr. Aditya Choudhary, Mr. Hardik Mehta, Mr. Vismay Vakharia, and Mr. Kameswar Rao. The opening remarks were given by Dr. Soumya Sundar Pattanayak (Assistant Professor, ECE, MVJCE).

The session started off with a hands-on training on Raspberry Pi and Linux by Mr. Aditya Choudhury and Mr. Kameswar Rao. In the next session, Mr. Hardik Mehta and Mr. Vismay Vakharia trained the participants on ROS software and Gazebo Simulation.

Outcomes:

  • Students learnt about the various applications of Robotics in the Defence sector.
  • They learnt Linux commands and Raspberry Pi.
  • They gained knowledge in ROS software and Gazebo simulation.
