Department of Civil Engineering, MVJCE, organized a value added course on Codal Provisions in Civil Engineering, on 14th & 22nd December, 2023. The main objective of this event is to understand the importance of codes in civil infrastructures. Codal provisions refer to the building codes and standards that outline the minimum requirements and guidelines for the design, construction, and maintenance of structures. These provisions are set by relevant regulatory bodies and organizations to ensure the safety, durability, and functionality of civil engineering projects. The event was conducted in Seminar Hall 4, 45 students and all the faculty members from the Civil Engineering department participated.
Event Coordinators:
1. Prof. Sagar C P, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering
2. Prof. Leenu Paul, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering
3. Prof. Muralidhara R, Associate Prof. Department of Civil Engineering
Guest Speakers:
1. Dr. B V Venkatarama Reddy , Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, IISC, Bengaluru
2. Mr. Prabhakar Gundlapalli , Associate Director (Civil) and Scientific Officer, NPCIL, Mumbai
The Event comprised of two important sessions on both the days
SESSION 1: Expertise talk on the importance of codes for the Civil work
From (10.00 am – 12.30 pm)
During the presentation, the guests provided a detailed and comprehensive explanation of the diverse codes employed in civil engineering. They have related the importance of codes, educatig their specific applications, relevance, and impact on the field. The discussion likely encompassed various aspects such as building codes, structural standards, and guidelines that play a crucial role in the design, construction, and maintenance of civil engineering projects. The guest’s elaboration likely involved real-world examples, practical insights, and a comprehensive overview to help the audience gain a thorough understanding of the significance and nuances of the different codes within the civil engineering works.
SESSION 2: Students are allowed to attend the Quiz and interaction to expertise
From (1:30 pm – 3:30 pm)
Students are granted the opportunity to attend quizzes specifically focused on codes in civil engineering, offering a targeted evaluation of their understanding of regulatory standards and principles. These quizzes serve as checkpoints for students to gauge their comprehension of the intricate details within civil engineering codes. In connection to these assessments, interactive sessions provide a forum for students to engage in discussions, allowing them to delve deeper into the practical applications and implications of the codes they are studying. This dual approach not only assesses theoretical knowledge but also encourages students to actively apply coding standards to real-world scenarios, fostering practical expertise. Through quizzes and interactive discussions, students not only acquire specialized knowledge but also learn critical thinking skills essential for navigating the complexities of code compliance. By participating in these activities, students become active contributors to their expertise in civil engineering codes, preparing them for success in their future roles within the industry.
