Workshop on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH)

On November 10th, 2023, MVJ College of Engineering hosted a workshop on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) in Seminar Hall 6. The distinguished speaker, Mr. T. K Rajiv, Director of SUPRAJIV Technical and Management Studies (OPC) Pvt Ltd. The workshop, spanning from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM, engaged 25 faculty members from various departments of MVJCE in an interactive session.

The event commenced with a warm welcome address from Dr. M. Brindha, Vice Principal of MVJ College of Engineering, acknowledging the significance of the workshop in fostering a safe and respectful workplace. Mr. T.K Rajiv, brought a unique perspective to the discussion.

Session Highlights:

Mr. T.K Rajiv led an interactive session, discussing critical aspects of POSH including,

PoSH Policy: An insightful overview of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment policy and its relevance, with real-world examples.

Sexual Harassment and Non-Sexual Harassment at Workplace: A comprehensive exploration of various forms of sexual harassment and non-sexual harassment enhancing participant awareness accompanied by interactive discussions.

Internal Complaints Committee (ICC): Mr. Rajiv outlined the ICC’s purpose and structure, highlighting its crucial role in addressing workplace harassment followed by the composition of the committee, drawing on his experiences. Further, the speaker explained the roles and responsibilities of the Committee. The ICC members’ duties, emphasizing their critical role in maintaining a safe environment was discussed in detail.

Supreme Court Order Implementation on POSH Act 2023: Insights into the recent Supreme Court orders regarding the implementation of the PoSH Act in 2023, providing a legal context to the discussion.

Clarification of key terms such as “aggrieved woman,” “respondent,” and “Internal Complaints Committee” with examples, were discussed during the session ensuring a clear understanding. To the participants. The speaker presented of a sample case study to illustrate the practical application of POSH policies and procedures.

Enquiry Procedure of POSH Committee: Mr. T.K Rajiv explained the step-by-step process followed by the committee in conducting inquiries into harassment complaints. The speaker discussed a hypothetical case scenario involving a false harassment complaint to provide a better insight to the participants.

Sample Format of the Report: A sample report format was also presented, which can be used by the ICC committee while documenting and reporting their findings. During the discussion, the speaker reiterated that the report should reaffirm the institutions’ commitment to address the legitimate concerns and ensure a harassment free workplace for all employees.
