Saahitya Auditions

Saahithya organised the auditions for new members, scheduled on 18th December 2023, a Monday, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Saahithya Auditons were organised to find and nurture new talents and make our club proud. The President of this year is Meghana Patnala and the Vice President for this year is Siva Kumaran. More than 100 students auditioned making this a record-breaking history.

There are five societies in Saahithya mainly; Writsoc, Debsoc, Munsoc, Social, and, Books and Beyond.

Writsoc mainly consists of writers of all kinds like poetry, fictional writing, journalistic writing, descriptive writing, technical writing, and much more. The representatives for this year are Ananya and Aklavya.

Debsoc has many students with incredible speaking skills and outspoken capabilities. They are the boldest faces of Saahithya. The representatives for this year are Akash and Jhanavi.

One of the most innovative and most anticipated societies is Munsoc. This is the recently revived society of Saahithya where debates between people portraying different countries take place. The representatives for this year are Sharat and Syed Aman.

Social is the backbone of Saahithya where designers, photographers, and video editors have the freedom to create their pieces. A poetry, story, or debate without any of the Social members wouldn’t have been possible. The representatives for this year are Rohith and Lakshmi.

Books and Beyond is the open society of the club where any student can share their thoughts on their favorite books and take recommendations from other book enthusiasts. The representatives for this year are Prem and Sameer.

The Auditions commenced with a brief introduction about Saahithya and all the societies in Saahithya. After it was concluded, the Writsoc auditions were taken to the Rajalakshmi Seminar Hall while the Debsoc and the Social Auditons took place in M V Jayaraman Auditorium.

Debsoc auditions

The debsoc auditions took place in the M V Jayaraman Auditorium, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The debate took place in three different languages mainly English, Kannada, and Hindi. There were 7 topics where 3 were for English debate, 2 were for Kannada debate and the other 2 were for Hindi debate.

There were 7-8 rounds taking place where 1 round was for Hindi, 1 round was for Kannada and the rest of the rounds were for English debaters.

The exhilarating and detailed debates were such a delight to watch and hear. The enthusiasm shown by the participants were on peak levels.

Overall, Debsoc had the most amazing debates for the auditions.

Writsoc auditions

The Writsoc auditions took place in the Rajalakshmi Seminar Hall, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. There were three different languages for writing mainly English, Kannada, and, Hindi. There were three distinct categories mainly Poetry writing, Fictional writing, and Journalistic writing.

Poetry writing had a different turn for the topics. In bowls, there were three different abstract phrases and participants had to choose one of these phrases at random. After they had chosen their phrases they had to write two poetries on contrasting emotions. For example; if one poetry was based on the emotion of happiness then the other poetry should be of the opposite perspective like disappointment. There were a lot of poetries received and the most amazing aspect was that almost 20 pieces were in Kannada and many others were in Hindi, dominating the English poetry! This was one of the best achievements of Writsoc.

Fictional writing was a creative writing section where participants have to choose a picture shown in the slides near the dais and have to write a story based on it. There was no word limit but they could write only on one sheet, front and back. Even here the Kannada and Hindi pieces dominated English! Writsoc was very proud of this achievement.

Journalistic writing had a different run where the links for the news article were shared with the participants in the common WhatsApp group. They were given 5 minutes to read the news article and get the gist of it. Then they were given 30 minutes to write the piece of that particular news.

The writings and pieces by the participants were so riveting and dedicated that we are immensely proud of everyone who participated.

Social Auditions

Social auditions started of in the M V Jayaraman Auditorium and around 1:00 p.m. the prompts were given to photographers. They were sent and the doubts were also clarified by the representatives and the volunteers.

Later, video editing and design prompts were given and all the prompts were sent in the group so it was easy for everyone to check it anytime they want.

Names of participants who are in video editing or design or photography but are also in debate or writing were collected for our convenience.

By 2:30 people started showing up for submission of photography auditions

Some were not able to submit their pieces through the link sent due to network issues or the document type was not supported so those were sent through WhatsApp.

Deadline was extended to 3:00 p.m. as some of them had to eat lunch at hostel and some had internals going on.

Submission links were closed by 4:15 and the review process had begun. In total 41 response through link were collected for photography and many more were collected through Whatsapp. Video editing had 4 response and design had 10 response.

The amount of participants for Social was overwhelmingly huge and it was such a crowd enthusiastic event. Participants did not care about the heat or the cold and toiled for their photos designs and videos until they found it perfect for submission.
