International Conference on Advances in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering (ICAAAE-2023)

The Departments of Aeronautical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, MVJCE, organized a First ‘International Conference on Advances in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering’, on 22nd and 23rd June 2023. The event started at 10.00 am at the MVJCE Auditorium. The session started with an Inaugural address by Prof. S. C. Gupta, Head/AE/AS, MVJCE. He welcomed the Guest Speaker and the audience. During his talk, he highlighted the fact that it is of utmost importance for young engineers to be aware of the technological advances in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering. He added that this international conference will set a new milestone for students to learn about emerging areas like Avionics, UAV, Aerodynamics, Propulsion system, Control system etc.

Keynote Speech on ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Indian Aeronautics’ by Dr. P. Lathashree

206 participants attended this two-day International Conference enthusiastically. Prof. S. C. Gupta as a Convener, along with Dr. P. Arunagiri, Dr. P. Suresh and Dr. K. Deenadayalan, organized the event, ably supported by other faculty members of the department.

The Guest Speaker

The Chief Guest was Dr. P. Lathashree, Chief Scientist and Head, Flight Mechanics and Control Division, National Aerospace Limited (NAL), Bangalore. She has been extensively involved in flight dynamic and sub-system modeling, flight controller design and stability and control analysis, and has made significant contributions to the ongoing national fighter and transport aircraft programs. Her expertise is in flight mechanics and control for fixed wing aircraft. She has worked in major projects like Flight dynamic and sub-system model development for light combat aircraft (TEJAS), AMCA, GHATAK and SARAS aircraft, and she has experience in FOC upgradation of Mirage 2000 Aircraft.

The Chief Guest released the International Conference Proceedings with the HOD-AE/AS, after which the keynote session began. Dr. P. Lathashree delivered the Keynote talk on the topic ‘Challenges and opportunities in Indian Aeronautics’ and presented a broad perspective of Indian Aeronautics research and development, and industries. Through her talk, she motivated the students towards Aeronautics and Aerospace related subjects. She discussed the future of the aviation industry in India, exposing the students to the potential employment opportunities in this field. Dr. P. Lathashree interacted with the students and gave some suggestions based on their requests.

Following the lunch break, the Schedule of Presentations started. The order of the Paper Presentations was based on the theme of the Paper presented. Paper Presentations were held in Seminar Halls 5 and 6. Totally, over 2 days, 45 articles were presented in the conference. The details regarding the sessions and session chairs had already been mentioned in the programme schedule. On Day 1, 25 papers were presented.

On Day 2, the first session started at 10 am with a Plenary talk on powder forging Technology by Dr. L. Arulmani from Aeronautical Engineering department, MVJCE. This was followed by a Keynote session talk by Prof. S. C. Gupta, Head – AE/AS, MVJCE. After the Keynote session, Paper presentation by participants continued in Seminar Halls 5 and 6. On Day 2, 20 papers were presented. After all the presentations were completed, 7 papers from 7 sessions based on theme received the Best Paper award. There are 45 papers presented in 7 sessions out of which 1 Paper received the Best Presentation award. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. P. Arunagiri, who thanked the participants for making this event a great success.

Outcome of the International Conference

Dr. P. Lathshree shared her extensive knowledge on the topic ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Indian Aeronautics’ with the participants. This International Conference was an eye opener to futuristic technology in Aeronautics and Aerospace technology. It enhanced the knowledge of the participants on the topics that were discussed and gave them a vast exposure in the domain of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering.
