Department of Chemistry, MVJCE, organized a Guest Lecture on 10.02.2023 for First semester Chemistry cycle students, at Smt. Rajalakshmi Jayaraman Seminar Hall, at 01:00 pm. The lecture started with an invocation song by Trisha and Aishwarya from ‘I’ section, followed by introduction of the Guest Dr. T. S. Kavitha, by Yashmika from ‘L’ section. Honourable Principal Prof. Dr. Mahabaleswarappa honoured the Guest with a bouquet and spoke about the importance of Material Characterization and Engineering Applications.
Dr. T. S. Kavitha, Scientist, CMTI, Bengaluru, presented the Lecture on Material Characterization and Engineering Applications, their Introduction, Instrumentation and Applications. The Speaker explained the techniques and analysis done for various metal oxides and composites. She also detailed the morphological and functional properties of the catalysts determining FESEM, AFM, XRD and HRTEM analysis. She explained about the sol-gel method of preparation of nanomaterials, and also about the preparation of photocatalysts employed for industrial effluent treatments. Material characterization helps in determining the composition of elements present in the nanomaterial.
The Lecture was very interesting and informative and ended with a Q and A session where the questions posed by students were answered by the Guest Speaker.
Dr. Preethi. G, Head, Department of Chemistry, presented a memento to the Guest, Dr. T. S. Kavitha, as a token of gratitude. Aryan Engineer, student from ‘J’ section, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The programme was compered by Prof. Alamelu Janaki, Department of English.
Outcome of the Event
Material Characterization will allow students to identify the structure of a material, and how it refers to its macroscopic properties and its technological applications.
