- Any other relevant point, with the permission of Chair
The welcome address was given by Dr. Shima Ramesh Manyata (Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication, MVJCE). The Principal welcomed the gathering, after which the session was taken over by HOD, ECE. He presented the Autonomous 2021-22 Scheme as per NEP guidelines, and also the Progress Highlights and Action Plan of the ECE department.
The session was then handed over to Prof. C. Murali, who gave valuable suggestions for the improvement of all the agenda points discussed. He opined that device, circuit, field, and network and design concepts should be given more emphasis in the curriculum. He suggested that Basic Electronics syllabus should be framed separately for EEE and ECE, thus including more concepts in-depth, compared to the non-circuit branch. It was his valuable opinion that the Field theory concept taught in Physics is not sufficient for Engineering, so, Field theory concept must be included in the scheme. Tutorial sessions should be made more interactive. Lab should be conducted in such a way that students are able to do the experiments without the help of lab manuals. Prerequisites need to be defined in the syllabus, for all electives. He suggested that cloud computing and block chain must be included as one of the open electives for ECE Students.
Prof. Murali appreciated the fact that electives from one semester to another semester are linked in a proper manner. He wondered if any extra credit could be given to students who are taking up courses like NPTEL/Swayam. He also suggested that more number of students can be sent for internships to organizations like ISRO/DRDO/HAL. He agreed to get help from IETE for Guest Lectures, to motivate the students. He expressed an interest to give talks on 5G and beyond, IoT and WSN.
Mr. Peter Sam went through the syllabus and felt it is as per industrial requirements. Suggestions were also given by parents, alumni and faculty members.
The meeting concluded with assurance from the HOD of taking up all the suggestions, for improvement of the curriculum. Dr. Krishnaswamy, Associate Professor, Electronics and Communication department, MVJCE, proposed the vote of thanks.
