Two-day Workshop on Emerging Trends and Applications in IOT was organized by the ECE and IIOT Department on 17th and 18th August 2023. The Workshop received an overwhelming response with 48 participants. The work shop was an amalgamation of lecture sessions and hands on sessions.
About the Workshop
The program was presided over by Dr. V. Suresh Babu (Principal, MVJCE). The session started at 10:00 am with forty-eight registered participants including students from various departments of MVJCE.
The workshop focussed on the state-of-art concepts of IOT technology, recent advances, case studies and the framework of IOT and the cloud concepts for developing prototypes and systems.
Day 1 (17.08.2023): Session I (Inauguration Ceremony and FN Session)
The workshop began with Ms.Britney Naomi, 7th sem ECE student welcoming the guest and gathering. Dr. Sajithra Varun, HOD department of ECE gave the welcome address. The chief guest of day one was Ms. Mary Thomas, Product Owner, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Private Limited, Bangalore. Ms.Hritwika, 4th sem, IIOT student introduced the chief guest, Ms. Mary Thomas. As a token of appreciation memento and bouquet was presented to chief guest by Dr.V.Suresh Babu, Principal, MVJCE. He also welcomed the chief guest and conveyed good wishes for the success of the program.

Ms. Mary Thomas, Product Owner, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Private Limited, Bangalore, began the session .The focus of the session was on “Application of IOT in Environment sensing.”

The session included the different case studies like sensing of environmental pollution, smoking hazards, moisture sensing in agriculture, Automotive industries and different case studies and its current requirement were elaborated during the session. Students were given insights into Robert Bosch products, opportunities, and how to shape their future while contributing to society through IoT applications.
Day 1 (17.08.2023): Session II (AN Session)
Dr. Jaya Chandhwani, Assistant Professor, Dept. of ISE, MVJCE and Dr. Kanithan S, Associate Professor, Dept. of ECE, MVJCE delivered the session on following topics : Introduction to Arduino Uno pin configuration and the function of each pin, Overview of the Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment), How to write a program for Arduino, The process of initializing the Arduino board, Connecting an LED using a digital pin and implementing fading using an analog pin, Utilizing the serial communication port and printing data on the serial monitor.

Day 2 (18.08.2023): Session I (Inauguration Ceremony and FN Session)
Day 2 began with welcoming the gathering by Ms. Britney Naomi, 7th sem ECE student. The guest of the second day was Dr. Apurba Das, Head, Cognitive AI, Tata Consultancy Services, Bangalore. Dr. A. C. Niranjanappa, Dean Research presided over the function and welcomed the guest. As a token of appreciation, memento and bouquet were presented to the chief guest.

The session enhanced the participants’ knowledge of the topic “Emerging Trends in Vision AI.” The agenda of the session included discussions on applications and casestudies of IoT, challenges in Vision AI, and a presentation on the facilities available in the TCS lab, which was very interesting for the participants. The journey of IoT and AI in IoT was illustrated with various examples. The session concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants by the chief guest.

Day 2 (18.08.2023): Session II (AN Session)
The sessions were handled by Dr. Kanithan S, Associate Professor, Dept of ECE, MVJCE and Prof. Vijaykumar S, Assistant Professor, Dept. of ECE, MVJCE. The faculty members provided guidance to the students on how to write Arduino code and introduced various pin configurations of Arduino.The faculties also taught the students to write fundamental programs using Arduino like LED blinking, UART Transmission and interfacing of buzzer and ultrasonic sensor.

Outcome of the Event:
The participants gained valuable insights into the industrial demands of IoT, enabling them to better prepare for the future. They were enriched by both informative sessions and hands-on experiences. Students were able to use various types of sensors on the development board, thereby gaining a better understanding of the basic concepts of Arduino.
