Guest lecture on Polymers for advanced engineering applications

Department of Chemistry, MVJCE, organized a Guest Lecture for Second semester Chemistry cycle students, at Auditorium on 07.07.2023 from 11.00 am to 01:00 pm. The lecture started with an invocation song by from ‘H’ section, followed by introduction of the Guest Dr. Natrajan Kandaswamy director of Vijaya Lakshmi polymers, Bengaluru, by Thanushree from ‘D’ section. Dr. M. Shwetha, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry honoured the Guest with a bouquet and spoke about the importance of ‘Polymers and its applications in daily life’.

Dr. Natarajan Kandasamy currently working as Director of Vijayalakshmi Polymers. He has a teaching experience of 40 years. He has a research experience of 30 years and guided 6 PhD scholar. He acts as a Innovator of Cable seals, High Tg epoxys, Waste plastic reinforced beams and Pillars for Construction Industry. He convened and participated in several National and International Conferences. He received National Award for meritorious invention of Cable seal in 2004 and International award as Distinguished Scientist in Polymers 2015. He won Vishist Nagarik Award from Indian Express group in 2016 and RSST awards including best Teacher award more than 8 times.

The speaker Dr. Natarajan Kandasamy started the session explaining the basics of polymers. He also explained about natural and synthetic polymers, organic and inorganic polymers and gave a brief introduction on thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers.

He outlined the importance of advanced polymers (A group of polymer materials that are known to retain its desirable mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties when subjected to harsh environment such as high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive chemicals).

The speaker Dr. Natarajan Kandasamy gave some examples of applications of polymers like windshields, engine, artificial heart, instrument panels etc.,
