Inauguration Day

On August 2, 2024, at 9:30 AM, MVJ Degree College hosted its Inauguration Function, marking the commencement of the First academic year with enthusiasm and grandeur. The event, held in the college auditorium, was graced by a distinguished array of guests and dignitaries, setting a positive tone for the year ahead, especially for the first batch of students and their parents.

The day began with a moment of reverence as attendees paid homage to the statue of the college’s esteemed founder, Dr. M V Jayaraman. Concurrently, registration and distribution of food coupons were organized in the auditorium entrance, ensuring all participants were well-prepared for the day’s activities. This was followed by the formal inauguration of the college, symbolized by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by our distinguished guests: Prof. Niranjana Vanalli, Dr. S. Ramesh, Dr. S. Muralidhar Sri M J Balachander & Principal. The ceremony was further enriched by a soulful invocation song performed by Miss Pranathi and Mr. Prathiptha, adding a sense of purpose and inspiration to the event.

The Welcome Note was delivered by Miss Sandhra Sunny, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, who extended a warm and heartfelt welcome to all attendees, setting an encouraging tone for the proceedings. Bouquets and mementos were presented to the guests as a gesture of appreciation.

The Principal, Dr. Murali S, provided an insightful address outlining the college’s vision and goals. He emphasized the importance of nurturing academic excellence and personal growth, highlighting the institution’s commitment to these values.

Miss Madhurima Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor, department of Hindi, then provided a detailed introduction of the guests, offering context about their distinguished backgrounds and contributions. 

Prof. Niranjana Vanalli, who holds a PhD from the University of Mysore, has served as the Head of the Department of Journalism for six years and has authored 37 books. He has also been the Registrar of the Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University and was appointed Director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre at the Embassy of India in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in August 2018.

The Chief Guest, Prof. Niranjana Vanalli, the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Bengaluru North University, delivered a compelling address on the transformative power of education. He stressed the crucial role of higher education institutions in shaping future leaders and underscored their responsibility to cultivate leadership qualities and prepare students for future challenges. 

Dr. Ramesh, currently Professor and Dean of International Programs and Partnerships at the PG Centre, Mount Carmel College Autonomous, has guided 24 Ph.D. and 51 M.Phil. scholars. His roles include being a member of the Indian delegation to Australia for skill-based education, serving on the Research Advisory Committee of SBS Swiss Business School in Zurich, Switzerland, and holding positions such as Executive Secretary of the Federation of Teachers’ Council of Commerce and Management in Karnataka. He has also been Treasurer of Peace Quest International and a member of the Karnataka Public Service Commission’s curriculum expert committee and the NAAC peer committee.

Guest of Honor, Dr. S. Ramesh, Dean of International Programs and Partnerships at Mount Carmel College, further enriched the discussion by highlighting the integration of co-curricular activities with academic pursuits. He emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary activities, research, and innovation in fostering a well-rounded education and advocated for a holistic approach that prepares students for real-world challenges. 

With over 30 years of experience in Commerce and Management studies, Dr. Muralidhar has supervised 19 Ph.D. scholars and led various research projects. His leadership roles include membership in the Sub-Committee on Governance & Regulation of the Taskforce for NEP Implementation in Karnataka and the Expert Committee on Vocationalization of Commerce Education. In 2022, he was honored with the Best Teacher Award by the Global Institute of Management Sciences, Bangalore.

Following Dr. Ramesh, Dr. S. Muralidhar, President of the Teachers’ Council of Commerce and Management, discussed the rapidly evolving educational landscape. He emphasized the need for adopting new methodologies and technologies to remain relevant and effective in teaching and learning and encouraged students to engage in research and innovative projects. 

The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Sandhya, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management at 12.00 PM, who expressed sincere gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, and guests for their invaluable contributions and support. The national anthem marked the end of the formal proceedings, followed by a delightful lunch provided for students, parents, and staff, which offered an opportunity for further interaction and engagement.

Orientation program – From 1.15 PM to 3.30 PM

Following the inauguration, the orientation program aimed to familiarize new students with the college environment and academic expectations. Dr. Sandhya presented detailed information about the founder, the institution, and the various programs and courses, helping students navigate their educational journey. The students were introduced to the faculty and staff, gaining insight into the support systems available throughout their academic tenure.

Mr. Srikanth, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, conducted a virtual tour of campus facilities—including libraries, labs, medical and counseling centers, gym, banking facilities, sports facilities, and recreational areas—to help students become comfortable with their new learning environment. 

The orientation also included detailed sessions on the mentor-mentee system, code of conduct, rules and regulations, and dress code addressed by the principal, aimed at helping students understand the ethos of the institution. Additionally, sessions on the importance of research and innovation were conducted, aligning with the college’s commitment to fostering a culture of inquiry and creativity. The event concluded at 3:30 PM.
