Industrial Visit to Hoodi Power Receiving Station 400/220 KV -Bangalore

A one-day Industrial Visit to Hoodi Power Receiving Station4 00/220 KV, Bangalore, was organized by the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, on 20th May 2022, for the 4th semester students. 32 of our students visited the organization, accompanied by faculty members Mr. Rajarajan R and Mrs. Krupa M.

EEE Department 4th Semester Students during the Industrial Visit to Hoodi Power Receiving Station 400/220KV

Mrs. Kavitha, AEE, Hoodi Power Receiving Station 400/220 KV, explained about the single line diagram of the entire substation. The AGC Control Center is responsible for controlling the loads and faults, storing the data of each incoming and outgoing line, monitoring all the data on a single system, and also operating all the relays which is computerized. On the field, Mr. Prasad, Maintenance Engineer, explained about Transformers, Load points, Distribution system, Transmission system, Circuit breakers and Isolators on the transmission line.

The students were able to understand about monitoring and control of power flow in the substation. On the field, students had the experience of seeing various substation equipment such as power transformers, busbars, isolators, instrument transformers, lighting arresters and earthing equipment. Students also understood the cooling mechanism of power transformers.

Outcome of the Event:

  1. Students got exposure to SCADA system.
  2. On the field in the substation, students gained practical knowledge of transformers, lightning arrestors etc.
  3. The visit helped students in meeting the Program Outcome.
