Laboratories

The Engineering Chemistry Laboratories (Lab I and Lab II) at MVJCE are comprehensively equipped to support the first- and second-semester Chemistry laboratory courses in line with curriculum requirements. Together, these laboratories house essential instruments and traditional equipment such as glassware, weighing balances, centrifuges, heating mantles, water baths, and ovens. Regular calibration and maintenance ensure accuracy and reliability of all facilities. Beyond routine lab sessions, the infrastructure is also utilized by students and faculty for research activities. The primary focus of these sessions is to provide students with practical exposure that complements their theoretical learning. The main objective of the Engineering Chemistry Laboratories is to offer hands-on experience, enabling students to connect classroom concepts with real-world chemical practices

Engineering Chemistry Laboratory ( Lab I )

The Engineering Chemistry Laboratory (Lab I) at MVJCE reinforces the theoretical concepts taught in Engineering Chemistry by offering hands-on experience in chemical analysis, synthesis, and volumetric techniques. Students practice various types of titrations to estimate relevant substances, gaining practical skills that complement classroom learning

The Engineering Chemistry Laboratory (Lab II) is well equipped in accordance with curriculum requirements, featuring a range of instruments used to conduct experiments, analyse materials, and study chemical processes. It provides students with valuable hands-on experience, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills in chemistry. The instrumentation lab includes the following equipment:

  • pH meter – for measuring acidity and alkalinity
  • Conductometer – for determining electrical conductivity of solutions
  • Colorimeter – for analysing concentration of coloured compounds
  • Potentiometer – for measuring voltage and studying electrochemical properties

The Chemistry Research and Development Laboratory at MVJCE is established to promote advanced research activities in Chemistry. Approved by VTU, Belagavi, the center is actively engaged in an ongoing VGST-funded project, further strengthening its research profile. The laboratory supports research scholars pursuing Ph.D. programs in diverse areas of Chemical Science. In addition, four VTU-recognized supervisors are available to provide mentorship and ensure academic rigor. Well, aligned with curriculum and research requirements, the R&D facility offers infrastructure for wet Chemical synthesis and is equipped with sophisticated instruments such as Sonicator, salt spray chambers, magnetic stirrers, centrifuges, and hot air ovens. Alongside research, the laboratories (Engineering Chemistry Lab I & II and the R&D Lab) provide students with hands-on exposure, enabling them to apply theoretical knowledge, develop practical skills, and contribute to innovative research across disciplines.

Departmental Club

OBJECTIVE OF THE CLUB:

The Department of Chemistry has established the club CHEMLIFE to nurture innovative ideas, inculcate a scientific approach, and foster a spirit of inquiry among budding engineers. The club enhances scientific learning through activities such as model-making, poster presentations, quizzes, and paper presentations. The club is actively functioning with the following objectives,

  • Promote interest in chemistry – Stimulate curiosity and encourage exploration of chemical sciences.
  • Highlight everyday relevance – Emphasize the importance of chemistry in daily life and practical applications.
  • Environmental responsibility – Showcase the role of chemistry in monitoring and protecting the environment.
  • Healthcare applications – Explore how chemistry contributes to medical and healthcare advancements.
  • Learning with joy – Make chemistry engaging and enjoyable through interactive activities.
