XVII DAC meeting of ECE & IIOT department was conducted on 22nd July, 2023, in Seminar Hall 5, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, in the presence of members from Professional body, Prof. C. Murali (Former Vice- President, IETE, New Delhi), Mrs. Deepika Gusian (Senior Engineer, Phonepe, Bangalore, and Alumni of Class 2012, ECE Department), The Principal Dr. Suresh Babu V , Vice Principal Dr. Brindha M, COE Dr. Antony, HOD Dr. I. Hameem Shanavas, Mrs. Savitha (Parent of Sixth Semester student), 4th Sem Students and faculty members.

The welcome address was given by Ms. Shruthi N (Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication, MVJCE). The principal welcomed the gathering, after which the session was taken over by Ms. Divya Suganthan (Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication, MVJCE). She presented the progress highlights of the department for the academic year 2022-2023.

Dr. Sajithra Varun (Assistant Professor, Department of IIOT, MVJCE), discussed the ECE Autonomous scheme & syllabus for 2022 & Dr. Thilagaraj (Associate Professor, Department of IIOT , MVJCE), discussed the IIOT Autonomous scheme & syllabus for 2022 as per NEP guidelines.

The session was then handed over to Prof. C. Murali, who gave valuable suggestions for the improvement of all the agenda points discussed. He opined that device, circuit, field, Process control and design concepts should be given more emphasis in the curriculum. It was his valuable opinion that the more wireless communication concept to be taught for Engineering, so, wireless communication & technology must be included in the scheme. Tutorial sessions should be made more interactive. Lab should be conducted in such a way that students are able to do the experiments without the help of lab manuals. Prof .Murali C suggested that Antenna and Wave Propagation should be introduced in the lower semester. He suggested to put forward this concern to VTU. He also suggested that a regular workshop to be conducted to strengthen the knowledge of students. Questions for assignment or in CIE can be taken from the content discussed in the video links included in the syllabus. One conceptual based problem to be given in the lab to ensure that concepts are clear. Application related IIOT subjects to be included in the syllabus.

Prof. Murali appreciated the fact that electives from one semester to another semester are linked in a proper manner. He wondered if any extra credit could be given to students who are taking up courses like NPTEL/Swayam. He agreed to get help from IETE for Guest Lectures, to motivate the students. He expressed an interest to give talks on 5G and optimization.

Mrs. Deepika, Alumnus of MVJCE, Class of 2016 shared her experience and suggested to ensure that students are industry ready once the course is complete.

Students of 4th semester Ms. Deekshitha, Department of ECE and Ms. Hrithvika, Department of IIOT shared their viewpoints and suggested to include spoken English sessions to enhance communication skills.

Dr. Biswaranjan Barik, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE suggested to involve students in community service-related project.

Finally, the session was concluded by the Department action plan for the upcoming academic year by Prof. Jeeva B, (Assistant Professor, Department of ECE) Prof Sheher Banu, Assistant Professor, Department of ECE) proposed the vote of thanks.

Outcome of the Meeting:

The following points have been taken into account, for due consideration:

  1. Have a better approach in conducting lab, seminar, internship, and project work.
  2. Expounded the process to be involved in an effective and transparent assessment.
  3. Utilize infrastructural facility to keep pace with the changing needs of the teaching / learning environment.
  4. Develop a long-term strategic plan with well-defined goals and objectives, to maintain the pace of growth.
  5. Enhance the nature of placements by inviting a greater number of core companies, thus offering better opportunities to our graduates.
  6. The collaborative learning using self-interest group can be done with other department students which will help the students to get more exposure.
  7. Strengthen networking activities with industries and professional bodies of repute.
