The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a Guest Lecture on the topic “Career Prospective in Embedded Domain” on August 12, 2023. The event was held at Seminar Hall 4. The expert speaker was Sri Anil Achoora, Lead Engineer, Siemens, Bangalore, India.
Mr. Anil Achoora has completed his master’s from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. He is currently working for Siemens as a Software Engineer and has worked across different domains and companies in the embedded world. He started by writing Perl scripts for Wi-fi system tests and most recently worked on Board support packages (BSP) for lithography machines. He is well versed in C, C++ and Python. He also likes to write small code snippets which test interesting facts about the language. He also has a passion for supporting people regarding their careers and Ph.D. related queries. He has worked with real time operation system (RTOS) followed by the Linux operating system. He has worked in Vxwords, QNX, Real time executive (RTE) and real time(RT) linux. Regarding architectures he has worked on platforms involving Power PC, ARM, and couple of others as well.
Dr. Srinivas Gombi, Dean Academics, MVJCE and Dr. Sajithra Varun S, Professor, and Head of ECE Department, welcomed the industry expert with a bouquet.
Mr. Anil Achoora shared his thoughts about how Embedded systems aid in regulating and controlling the internal working of electronic devices. He explained that how this line of work typically calls for knowledge and industry skills in both hardware and software. Thus, a career in embedded systems is relatable to a career in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI). Embedded systems design focuses on executing code on a flexible piece of hardware and focuses on converting programming instructions into an integrated circuit’s structure. Embedded systems are described as the microcontroller behind most electronics-based devices to process, store and control data. Our smartphones and other mobile-based devices are fitted with an embedded system such as a motherboard in order to perform fully automatic or semi-automatic functions. As the years pass by, our dependence on hi-end technology will only increase. Due to this reason, it is important that we have specialized professionals who work with different kinds of embedded systems.
He explained that there are many electronic engineers who have pursued a course in Embedded Systems in order to prepare themselves for the industry. He shared his knowledge in C, C++ and Python. He also motivated students to gain knowledge about real time operation system (RTOS), Linux operating system, Vxwords, Arm, QNX, Real time executive (RTE) and real time(RT) linux.
The outcome of this event was to encourage students with the wide scope of job roles in embedded systems and the intriguing mix of working in software and hardware both make it a desirable career. The current market for electronics and automotive is growing, increasing the demand for skilled embedded systems engineers. Someone with a knack for both coding and circuit designing would be best suited for such job roles. They are the future hopes for applying technologies for social and economic up-lift of the country.
