Curriculum civil

UG Program – Civil Engineering

  • B. E. Civil Engineering programme aims to produce the competent professionals with exclusive skills and knowledge that can be applied to urban developments, environmental protection, energy conservation, and sustainable construction & building development.
  • The Curriculum has been framed, based on NEP guidelines, with focus on Multidisciplinary education. All the recommendations of NEP have been carefully considered while framing the syllabus, taking inputs from experts in Academia and Industry. Aligning with the NEP, the students are offered the flexibility to select courses, through a Choice Based Credit system.
  • B. E. in Civil Engineering paves the way to serve society by solving various civil engineering problems focusing on sustainable development and following professional ethics by offering a variety of subjects in the 4-year B.E.  programme with a total of 120 credits from second year to final year.
  • Ability Enhancement Courses are integrated into the curriculum from the first year onwards to nurture students’ skills and talents. 11 verticals or clubs are offered to have the opportunity for exploring different areas of their own interest, to inculcate  innovative thinking and creativity which equip the students with diverse skill sets.
  • In Second Year, the basic courses such as strength of materials, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Survey, Transportation Engineering, Computer-Aided Building Planning and Drawing, Transportation Engineering, Analysis of Structures, Water Supply and Waste water Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering are offered to strengthen their basic knowledge.
  • In third year, the midterm courses like Construction Management and Entrepreneurship, Engineering Geology and Geo-informatics, Concrete Technology, Design of RCC Structures, Irrigation Engineering and Hydraulic Structures, professional and open electives are offered.
  • In Final Year, advanced courses such as Design of Steel Structures, Estimation and Contract Management, Prestressed Concrete, professional and open electives will be offered. Alongside the Major Project and Internship also will be covered in the curriculum to prepare the students ready for the industry.
  • Professional Electives like numerical methods in civil engineering, solid waste management, occupational safety and healthy monitoring, remote sensing and GIS, design of bridges, applied geotechnical engineering, design and construction of highway pavements etc. are offered in 4th, 5th, and 6th semesters to elevate theoretical knowledge to higher level.
  • Civil engineering students will be studying subjects like Python programming, operating systems, ethical hacking, introduction to cyber security etc which are offered as open elective by other departments. This combination of core courses and elective options ensures that students receive a well-rounded education while also having the opportunity to pursue their individual interests within the field.
  • Students can also opt minor degree programs along with major degree programs. A minor degree program is a secondary, focused area of study that complements a student’s major degree program.
  • The emphasis on the Internship is particularly valuable as it provides students with hands-on experience in tackling real-world engineering challenges and working in professional settings. This practical exposure not only reinforces classroom learning but also helps students develop critical skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and communication, which are essential for success in the industry.
